Blood and guts

Oh my dear god I am *ded* from more etsy lust. Found on the Skull-A-Day blog.

Because I do not have enough hobbies, I'm thinking of taking up embroidery. I want a portable pastime and I think embroidery will suit my temperament better than knitting.

I'm donating blood this afternoon. It's about time KU had another campus blood drive. I couldn't believe they didn't have one after the Red Cross ran short on supplies for treating earthquake victims in Haiti. I've reconciled to the fact that Lawrence has no whole blood donation centers. If not enough people are donating, there's no point in keeping the office open (although I suspect their low donation rate was due to their wretched hours). Every time I donate at a blood drive on campus there's at least a twenty minute wait to get processed. The place is always packed! So why not have quarterly blood drives at KU? I don't understand.

My motivation for exercise has waned. I'm burned out on my current activities. Right now I'm of the attitude that if I never do a lunge or squat again, it will be too soon. On the other hand, I am really tired of this flabby belly. Meh. I want to set up something with mirrors so I can practice dance drills and be able to see what I'm doing. The one wall available for this is currently blocked by a giant shelving unit burdened with thousands of dollars of fabric. Perhaps a sewing room re-org is in the cards.

Good job donating! Be kind to yourself and hydrate/eat well. I did it yesterday and even after a double-sandwich lunch felt a little light-headed for a bit.

I usually do fine with donating. I used to do it every eight weeks--the maximum allowed. If it didn't make the staff so nervous, I'd leave immediately after. I can't eat any of the stuff they have on the snack table, so I just wind up sitting around for ten minutes. Booooriiiing.

BTW, I am jealous of your ability to donate blood.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
They love me. Not only am I a rare blood type (B-), I have great veins and I fill the bag really fast.

I'll think of you while I'm getting drained today. =D

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh please don't. I barely make it through getting blood drawn for regular doctor visits...plus my veins roll, which makes it extra fun.

I'll tell you about my first cholesterol test sometime...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor thing. *pat*pat*

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you thought of stumpwork? Much more awesome than simple embroidery...

Mitti was looking at some plastic mirrors at one point - lightweight and portable....maybe something like that for dancing? I shall pester her for more information!

Have you thought of stumpwork?

When I get to the point where I've mastered the simple stuff, I'll be pestering you for lessons. =)

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be excellent since its on the list of things I've been meaning to get back into!

I checked w/ the hospital and got this:
Community Blood Center
8-6 M-Th
1410 Kasold, in the Orchards.

Oh man, that statue is fabulous! I want one in my garden, wonder if it can be weatherproofed.

Okay, if you want embroidery thread, I have a few bunches of it.

I checked w/ the hospital and got this:

It's closed.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Gee, nice to know our local hospital switchboard is so helpful!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
=D

I mean, unless they've re-opened since last week...but even then, their hours were crap. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. REALLY?

Edit: Yeah, still closed. I tried calling their number and got a recording that gave me a Topeka phone number as a replacement.

Oooooo

The skull a day is FAB!

Woudlnt' blood donation be way funner if vampires sucked it from your veins? Just sayin.

Embroidery ...it amuses me to think of you doing hankerchiefs.

Exercise...if only it were fun.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)

Ha! More along the lines of an additional way to embellish costumes. But I do have some fabulous old-style embroidery patterns with pin-ups and geishas that I'd like to use.

Very Cool

Those would be awesome on a hanky ::wink::.

Confession. All southern ladies carry real embroidered hankies in their purse.

Yes. I have one.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I know who's getting gifted with one of my first successful projects!

:)

[identity profile] wyckedgood.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! A Lot!

I miss the days of men carrying handkerchiefs too.

That and jaunty hats.

Aye, although I think that's coming back in style.

I've been very encouraging with my fella on the hat splurges.

I, too, have succumbed to the lust and am ded as well.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to find a supply for the blanks of those and paint a million of them to line my walls. For. Real.

[identity profile] thefox-rb.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall begin the search in earnest. We shall have them. Oh yes, we SHALL.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I did a cursory search this morning, but if you find 'em...oh baby.

[identity profile] thefox-rb.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Just emailed the artist re: if she casts them herself or if she gets them somewhere else. We'll see what the response is. I'm doing searches and coming up....erm....dead. *snort*

[identity profile] pamelonian.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't donate blood. My veins are nearly invisible. A nurse even advised me to keep my veins intact in case I needed the transfusion someday... My blood type isn't rare at all (A+).

Exercise for me is a big MEH. I just don't care right now. I will care a lot more when it is time to think about wearing shorts again.

Very appropriate title to this post, BTW. Hope your bloodletting went well!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-02-24 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! I'm so glad someone got the joke. YAY!
