Eye surgery--the preliminaries

I promised myself that if [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick was guaranteed a contract for the 2010-2011 academic year, I'd let myself afford LASIK surgery. Well! Less than 24 hours after the contract was verbally approved, I got on the phone with my eye doctor. My surgery is scheduled for May 20.

The big downer is I can't wear my contacts for two weeks before the surgery. I also can't wear them for two weeks before the pre-op visit. Which is why my pre-op visit is scheduled for the evening of May 19. Talk about annoying. I understand why, but it came as a surprise. An annoying surprise.

So basically, I can't do anything between May 5 and May 20 that requires sunglasses, energetic movement, or sweating. I have no idea how I'm going to handle yoga classes. Thank goodness I've got no dance obligations. Also, my ears are going to hate me. While my vintage frames are fine for occasional/weekly use, they're uncomfortable to wear day after day. Suxxor.

Who are you going through for the surgery?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Dr. Cavanaugh (http://www.cavanaugheye.com/), in Overland Park.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
oh but how exciting to get it done!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really really psyched about it. Eeee!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you get a quickie set of lenses done for a spare frame, so your others won't hurt? Ah, but then, they'll be useless after the surgery, right? Never mind. I was going to offer up one of my spare geeky gal frames I've been holding onto.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Yeah, not so much. I can make it two weeks. I'll just spend a lot of time not reading, sewing, crafting, or watching movies. Which leaves a lot of time for boozin'!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.. gee, that's tough.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow how exciting! Yay for progress and stuff.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's going to be such an amazing change, not worrying about my contacts drying out, or having to check my luggage because I can't bring my contact lens supplies in a carry-on bag, etc.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo-hoo! The three people that I know who have done this are really happy with it.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard nothing but good things, too. Woo-hoo, indeed!

[identity profile] scarletfaewind.livejournal.com 2010-03-09 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Trust me when you wake up and can read the clock without anything, you will not remember the inconvenience. I actually blogged about being able to see my legs when I shaved for the first time in my life (was in glasses since 3rd grade).

As for Yoga, depending on the class try it without your glasses. You might actually find that you are able to focus on your positioning better.

Ha! That's great!

For what it's worth, I take off my glasses in yoga class, but keep them close on a block, so I can grab them if I cannot make out what the teacher is doing for a posture.

D.

[livejournal.com profile] yavaphun has the best advice on this. I really don't need my glasses for yoga anymore!

[identity profile] yavaphun.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Glasses and Contacts is a ball and chain, cool that you get to break those binds. :) You deserve it putting up with those bastards for this long.

I understand everything except the Yoga.

No glasses no problem. Yoga is not new to you from Camel to Warrior 1. You know them and if you are doing it badly she will come correct your posture. I can not stand sweat on my glasses so I also take off my glasses before bikram class.

You make an excellent point. Of course! Thank you.

Oh but I love your awesome cats-eye glasses! But hurray for excellent eyesight. :)

Augh! A rather terrifying icon. =D

OK, 2 weeks pain in the ass. Lifetime of perfect vision. It looks like you will come out ahead on this one. Congratulations are in order!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm pretty excited about it.

It won't really be a lifetime, since I'll probably need reading glasses in 20 years. But I'll take twenty years corrective lens-free!!!

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'll still love you in your useless couch potato glasses.
Don't go blind!!!!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't go blind!!!!!

=D

I'm reassured by the fact that my mom's eye surgeon who did her glaucoma surgery last month has had LASIK himself.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
How exciting! I want to hear all about it, because I've promised myself to promise myself LASIK at some point. :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll post all the details, for sure.

Totally with the jealous...

[identity profile] wyckedgood.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Go you! That is SO exciting.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been thinking about it for nearly two years. It's time!

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you are overlooking the most obvious solution to not being able to wear contacts for 2 weeks before . . .

take a 2 week vacation.

duh!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The office is actually the best place to wear my glasses. It's many my non-work activities that necessitate the contact lenses. So...yeah, not so much with the vacation.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't need either if you are lounging and being massaged and waited on hand and foot by hot cabana boys. That's the kind of vacation I had in mind!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*snort*

Yeah, when I win the lottery, I'll be sure to let you know.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
on second thought, you'd want to see the hot cabana boys in detail, so scratch that.
