General update and a smidgen of politics

Two of my favorite online comics met in a delicious combination when [livejournal.com profile] beatonna guest-stripped (ha!) for Penny Arcade yesterday. Awesome.

[livejournal.com profile] miischelle's Conditioning for Bellydance class last night was a million shades of fantastic. I couldn't believe how fast the hour went by. It drove home how stupid I've been, forcing myself to exercise in ways that make me unhappy. For god's sake, why haven't I just been doing dance drills and dance-related calisthenics? Stupid, stupid, stupid. When I got home last night, I spent an hour and a half shifting things around in the sewing room so I could lay down the 4 x 6 exercise mat in the area that will be in front of the mirror. Which will get hung up. This week. I'm also thinking of making my own weighted hip belt. So! Promise! Progress!

The eating issues are getting weird(er), though. My standard way of eating is just not working anymore. Mentally and physiologically, I'm having serious problems. I'm unhappy with what I'm eating, and I'm having unusual physical side effects. I've been considering some alternative ways of eating, and I'm getting sucked into this Primal Blueprint stuff that [livejournal.com profile] adammaker and [livejournal.com profile] royal_spice are talking about. The website for Sisson's book is kind of cheesy, but I very much like his blog. I requested a copy of the book through Interlibrary Loan, but I should just order it just ordered it. I like that I can buy a copy directly from him through his website. The Primal style appeals to me more than trying vegetarianism again. Which should tell you how miserable I am with my food/eating issues right now, that I was considering going back there. Not that there's anything wrong with vegetarianism, it just was not for me--and I did it for six years.

I don't often bring up politics, but non-censorship is a big deal for me. Net Neutrality is in the spotlight again. CREDO mobile has an online form to show your support. It irritates me that they need to namedrop certain crazily rabid Republican icons and television stations to push the cause. Text of their message, with the parts that annoyed me edited out:

One of crazily rabid Republican name removed's latest conspiracies involves a "gang of communists" who want to turn the Internet into a "Marxist utopia." That dangerous gang of communists he's warning a certain group of people against? They're net neutrality supporters.

Crazily rabid Republican name removed has it all wrong: Net neutrality protects -- not threatens -- free speech online. Net neutrality is the principle that Internet users, not Internet service providers, should be in control. It ensures that Internet service providers can't speed up, slow down, or block Web content based on its source, ownership, or destination.

The FCC is accepting public comments until Thursday, April 8, on a proposed regulation that would protect net neutrality. Will you join me in saying that you won't be fooled by scare tactics and that you support an open Internet? Just click here to get started.

being a vegetarian is crappy.

Best. Icon. Ever.

They're Made of Meat (http://baetzler.de/humor/meat_beings.html)!

Thanks for the heads-up on the Net Neutrality comment form.

I made a pseudo-weight belt with an ankle weight set that I found at Tuesday Morning. I'll have to bring it around to show ya. It doesn't work out as "balanced all around" as the Powerbelt she sells, but I bet between our two creative minds, we can figure out a way to make it so.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I might make mine with removable bags (either sand or fishing weights). Or maybe you could cut the sections of the ankle weights apart, and fit them into pockets sewn on a separate belt.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)

I won't swear to it, since it's been so long since I dragged it out, but I think each of the weights are removable in this one.

Marxist utopia sounds pretty nice to me.

So does exercising in ways that make you happy (like being your own yoga instructor, too)!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Utopias never come to a good end. =D

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, one of those things good only in theory.

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you enjoyed class! I have learned that I cannot watch your face while I'm teaching, because you get this serious-concentrating-thinking face on that can be easily confused (for me) with frustration/boredom. Also, I have a weight belt - the same as or similar to that one. Want to borrow it for pattern stealing? I don't wear it too often and it's actually in the back seat of my car...

Also, is that Primal Diet similiar to the Paleolithic Diet? Couldn't tell from a quick glance at the blog...

Ha! Yes, my serious face, trying my best not to fall into a beledi rhythm. Argh, triplets will be the death of me!

I'd love to borrow the weight belt. Thanks!

The Primal thing is very similar to Paleo, yes. Only it allows for more stuff like cottage cheese and cooked foods. Basically, it's whole foods, organic if you can possibly afford it, and no grains.

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds excellent!
And I'll bring the weight belt next time i see you, which will probably be Monday.....unless I happen to need more cat food before then.....

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll let you borrow my copy of the Primal Blueprint when I've had a chance to get through it. I'm super impressed with his blog so far.

Yay for looking at the weight belt! If nothing else, I'd like to look at how someone else arranged the closures, etc.

I just found this article (http://www.marksdailyapple.com/whats-the-difference-between-primal-and-paleo) in the Primal Blueprint blog archives that outlines the differences between Primal and Paleo.

ah ha! that makes it clear that PB fixes everything I always hated about the paleo diet! woot!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I've been reading the archives of the blog and it's very informative. I'm looking forward to getting to read the book. Hope it arrives soon.

Boo

I am so sorry about all your food issues. That just blows.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's certainly an adventure! And one thing for sure--I've learned not to take food (or eating) for granted.

I bet!

[identity profile] wyckedgood.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No doubt. I cant imagine.

G-r-e-a-t.

Did you notice that the CNN article used a picture of people at an internet cafe...in China? Nice little subversive dig, eh? Well played, CNN. Well played.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! I didn't see that. I *did* go looking and finally found the ruling listed under CNN:Money
another dig?

I've been vegetarian for 17 years now...I added seafood back in about 7 years ago. I'm wondering, honestly, if eating lean meat would allow me to get to goal weight, as part of the Primal eating. I'm pondering, haven't made any decisions yet.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-04-07 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a really hard decision, I know. Good luck with it. *pat*pat*
