Low carb flu
I was fine until today.
Last night, I woke up at 11:15, and didn't get back to sleep until nearly 5:00 a.m.
I woke up at 9:00 this morning with a wretched headache and body aches. Part of those are from this crazy-ass weather change we got last night. But the muscle aches and general feeling of gross are likely due to my body's sudden panic at having to burn, you know, fat for a change. Also, this week I doubled the number of times I walk up the hill every day. My calves, glutes, and quads are feeling it by now.
So glad I picked up so No-Salt at the grocery store yesterday. Potassium hit, here I come.
Because I am psychic or something, yesterday I went ahead and submitted everything at work that had a deadline of today. So I called in sick. There's no need for me to go in. I told the office to call me if an emergency comes up. I'm going to spend the rest of the morning sitting on the couch and repeating the mantra: I have done this before I have done this before I have done this before and I was fine.
And then I might take a nap.
It took me a while to figure out what the hell was going on. I understand why people freak out the first time they cut grains out of their diet (especially people going Low Carb For Real, which I'm not, really). It's painful and doesn't seem healthy at all from where I'msitting slouching. The only thing keeping me from downing some oatmeal is the memory of feeling so much better once my body flips that switch.
So maybe not the Low Carb Flu so much as the High Carb DTs.
Nggggg. I want Dr. Adams to crack my neck. But I can't spend the $40 for the chiro visit. *grrr*

I will totally admit that the downshift can be really unpleasant,
but it seemed like a evil echo of my metabolic machinery redo-reboot-shift when I was first taking up IF.
Change is always scary to the ego,
and you and I and all my close friends have strong, healthy egos.

The first two days are a pig-biting-bitch
A am cranky as junkyard of rusty mangles
But...
Without fail, I get one gram of protein per pound of lean body mass,
about 240, and the rest of my calories come from olive, fish or coconut oil.
The breakdown looks like this:
Pro: 240+g = 960 kCal
Fat: ~100g = 1000 kCal
CHO: ~50g = 100 kCal
total 2100 kCal
This is a baseline, which means that I get some calories from nuts(almonds) and cheese, I eat these when I feel like I NEED to eat something, that's why the CHO score is approximate.
I also cheat on the weekends... usually with toast. mmmm toast.
I find if I intake this much protein, that my recovery from some seriously heavy weightlifting, becomes not-that-big-a-deal, and DOMS is pretty much a thing of the past. I used to deadlift once every two weeks at 400#, now I do 600 once a week and some heavy squatting too.

Also, I need to buy some coconut oil. They didn't have any at my neighborhood grocery so this weekend sometime I gotta drive out to the Community Mercantile.
I am not feeling terribly motivated to do either today, however. Even though the first one just requires opening up the damn Windows calculator.
sounds to me like your not getting enough calories.

See, if I had that coconut oil, I could just go eat a spoonfull right now. Maybe I should put on my big girl panties and drag myself to the Merc today after all.

Olive oil in a protein shake is good.
Also natural peanut butter, or any of the nut butters, is good for a little calorie bump.

And I had to walk up that GDMF hill at least once a day for longer than I care to remember; living at 14th & Tenn pretty much mandated it. Bleh.
