Today is now a good day

Cheeptrims is subbing this gold lace for the one I ordered. And they're putting it in the mail today!

Woo hoo!

Omg yayyy! I am very excited for your new costume. :D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So am I! And oh, yes, photos photos photos! Learned my lesson when I didn't get good photos of the Orientalist in 2008.

Wooo! I like the new one better!

And, I've probably said this before, but I'm feeling exhausted and run down and just DONE today (you know that feeling) and want to say: I like that you always make it so your links always open in a new tab.

It's the little things! :)

[identity profile] belluthien.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
COOL! And I like that one better, btw. :D
YAY!!!
*jumps up and down, happy*

Ha ha ha ha! Yes, yes, yes. It's always the little things. I mean how hard is it to type target="_blank", ya know????

Gotta give him credit, [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick is the one who turned me on to that.

Hope you can rest up over the weekend. You don't have to nanny on Saturday/Sunday, do you?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, indeed!!!

I think it'll be a lot more appropriate for the coat, definitely. I still like the other one better for bloomers. Also, I came up with the awesomest idea for the forty bajillion buttons this thing needs. Time consuming, but tres inexpensive.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Most excellent!

D.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy dance time for sure.

[identity profile] belluthien.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The first choice would be great for bloomers. But this one is great for the coat!

What is your sollution? *iz curious*
y

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you know how expensive shank buttons are and how impossible it is to find a large number of the same one. But sew-through buttons are so cheap and available in dozens!

So, just make little yo-yo applique things and before closing them up, stick the sew-through button in there to give it some stability. Then use the gathering thread used to pull together the yo-yo to sew it to the garment. It seems a really obvious solution, now.

If you can't find what you need for what you can afford, find what you can afford and make it into what you need! =D

Wooo!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so excited!

[identity profile] grnvixen.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooo, I really like this one and think it will actually be better. Pictures, don't forget!!!

[identity profile] belluthien.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
What are you using to make the yo-yo applique? Is it fabric, or trim? *trying to picture it*

THAT sounds like a fantasic idea.

And I like your motto!
Yes.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
This year I shall not forget pictures. I was seriously annoyed with myself last time.

I agree with you and [livejournal.com profile] belluthien that this is a much better choice of trim for the coat.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome! It's even prettier! So now you'll have two steampunk costumes, yes?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, fabric yo-yo in some sort of complimentary color. I have some of those Clover yo-yo makers (http://www.clover-usa.com/products/268066/Yo-Yo_Makers), which I absolutely love. I desperately want the cloverleaf shape one, but I can't find anyone locally who carries the novelty shapes. Just the circles.

The coat itself is sort of a dark peachy copper orange brocade with a gold and green pomegranate motif. I lined it in a blueish green linen that brings out the green in the brocade. I'm thinking dark brown buttons will really pop.

The waistcoat I wear with it is light brown and copper and sports dark copper buttons with a black debossed pattern.

PERFECT!
That lace is TITS, isn't it?

It was all the brainstorming we did, I know it changed the Universal Energy, lol.

Will buy some of what's left off you!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! Well, two borderline steampunk costumes. I think both will pass the [livejournal.com profile] sdemory approval test, which means they're sort of blasphemous to the standard steampunk canon. =D

I intend to rest this weekend. However, it is OUR babysitter's last weekend with us before she goes to Houston for her new job so it will be a maudlin and emotional weekend as well. I mean, it's been five years and you know I drag that girl everywhere with me and Jet. I'm glad for her new adventure but boo! as far as it relates to *me*!

Today is my last day at this nanny job and it is a short day on top of it which is probably adding to my mood -- today is the mom's last day at work so they are having a goodbye luncheon for her at a brewery nearby which starts at 2. So, I'll take the baby there to meet them all at 2 and then get out of their as quickly as I graciously can. So, KNOWING it is only a few hours has me all "baby schmaybe, get me the fuck out of there already!!!"

(This week I also did two extra long days -- staying to put the baby to bed at 7 -- so THAT is adding. I'm just done and need to be in my hoooooOOOOOOOoooome!)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That lace is totally tit.

I'm so glad you kept nudging me. =D

And hurray for Cheeptrims getting it out the door! I was just about ready to give up on their customer service, but this certainly boosts them back up in my opinion.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooof. Yeah, I know how attached you are to that sitter. Hard one, indeed.

Wish you could jump in a transporter machine and do relaxing crafty stuff with me this weekend. I've got less than two weeks to pull this costume together and I've got no accessories yet.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah!
Roya the Annoya strikes again! I can't let my friend give up on what is to be The Most Gorgeous Coat of the Year.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Even with all the construction weirdness, it is still pretty fucking beautiful.

[identity profile] apocalypticbob.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Gorgeous!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for good days, lace and things!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, indeed! So happy!

[identity profile] jimmy-hollaman.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yea, love the lace. Can't wait to see what you make...

[identity profile] shrijani.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I love excellent service.

When I first saw the name of that business, though, I read it is Cheetahprims.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-17 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha ha! Excellent band name.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-17 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty excited. I revised/revamped some of the themes of the costume (although the major clothing articles are staying the same). I think you'll like it!
