Lip Balm Public Service Announcement

I am a fiend for lip balm. I can't imagine life without it. I've carried at least one tube of it around with me at all times since I got my first purse (it had a kitty appliqué and white plastic pearl beads) at age eight.

My love of lip balm might be genetic. My mother has at least one tube of lip balm in every room of the house. Except for maybe the guest bedroom, although she might have one stashed there, too. It wouldn't surprise me.

Anyway. Lip balm. It's crucial. Crucial. And now, after nearly thirty years, I have found My Perfect Lip Balm. It goes on smooth but not greasy, doesn't get all smeary, doesn't make my lips peel (like that Burt's Bees stuff--ugh), and it's locally owned! Talk about a grand slam.

The Lavender flavor is pictured, but so far my favorite is Grapefruit.

You can purchase them online, but I recommend making the trek to the Lawrence Farmer's Market, if you can. You get five for $5.00 at the market.

I'm considering throwing away the rest of my lip balm collection (in which I have no small financial investment). Because none of them, none of them, are as awesome as Anthony's Beehive balms.

My lips have never felt better.

Apple cider?? Pumpkin spice? ... Not til Oct... bah.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Take comfort in the fact that, if this spring was any indication, time is going to fly by. October will be here before you know it.

Ngl, reading this post made me compulsively reach in my purse for my own lip balm. I think the company that made my favorite kind went out of business. :( Oh well, at least Burt's Bees doesn't make my lips peel or anything else dire.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorite companies/restaurants/stores regularly go out of business. I hope my curse doesn't extend to Anthony.

Lip Balm Fanatics, Unite!

[identity profile] zhukora1.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Good god, some of those Anthony's flavors sound tasty. When I use down my current stash of lip balms I may have to buy a pile of these.

And I've started buying a bunch every time I find a lip balm I like. Those companies seem to be particularly susceptible to going out of business. Alas! Thanks for sharing while they're still around so we can bump up their business. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
They've been around for a while, so I hope they're not in danger. You should read their history. It's very sweet.

[identity profile] indigodreamer.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh! I also love lip balm *AND* I love Anthony's Honey (it helps my allergies). I will absolutely pick up some of this at Saturday's market; thanks for the recommendation!

That's horrible that Burt's Bees makes your lips peel. I wonder what's in there that causes that. It's my classic lip balm, so that's extra concerning.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what's up with the Burt's Bees stuff. I think [livejournal.com profile] curieuse has a similar problem with it, maybe? I know another one of our grad students (e.wms.) had horrible problems with Burt's Bees. I converted her to Anthony's stuff this semester. =D

[identity profile] indigodreamer.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Very good to know.

:reaches in drawer, dab dab, smear:

Don't they do custom balms/labels as well?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!

Well, I know they do custom balms. Not sure about the labels.

I heart Anthony's Beehive. They are made of awesome.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for family-owned businesses!

[identity profile] radiantmephit.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Five for $5.00?!? That makes it almost worth getting up at the crack of dawn for the market!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If you tell me what flavors you want, I'll get them for you and you can come pick them up at my office next week.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you bring some next time you visit here? I'd really appreciate it. Burt's makes my lips peel too!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Look through the flavor options and let me know which ones you want and how many. If you want five flavors, tell me seven. Sometimes they're sold out of a flavor and it'd be good to have alternates.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome, just sent you e-mail! :D

[identity profile] radiantmephit.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent! Vanilla, Peach, Black Cherry, Lemon, and Tangerine, please. If they don't have one or the other, I trust your wisdom and recommendations.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Will do.

Oooo

[identity profile] wyckedgood.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for sharing!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome!

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I will have to pick one up. I usually cave on letting the kids buy a honey straw every market.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll see you there on Saturday!

[identity profile] annamatic.livejournal.com 2010-06-03 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
I like Anthony's Beehive too. But my very favorite, VERY favorite, is Lush. Both their Honey Trap and Lip Service are amazing. And I, too, have been a lifelong quester for The One.

Ha! Solidarity, sister!!!!

[identity profile] fairgoldberry.livejournal.com 2010-06-03 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I miss Anthony's Honey. He was always so sweet and friendly to me when I went to market, such a nice kid.

When I left Lawrence, I took about five tubes of his lip balm with me; I found one in a drawer a few months ago and put it on. The flavor's faded, but it's still smacky and good for lips.

Thanks for letting me know I can find their stuff online. It was some of the best honey I ever had.

Much love,
Rowan

You're very welcome! Yay for online ordering. Yay for the internet!

[identity profile] pms-inc.livejournal.com 2010-06-04 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I shall let my lips lead me to Lawrence then. TY for the quality recommendation. Lavender-infused creme brulee is my fav dessert, so anything lavender flavored intrigues me.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-06-04 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The lavender flavor is very interesting! I think it'll take a while for me to get used to flower smell on my lips, but since I'm trying to get away from tasting sweet stuff all the time, I thought it was a step in the right direction.
