Thanks to rougewench for the heads-up that the video for "Alejandro" is up. I'll repeat here my comment to her LJ post about it:

"Ha ha ha ha! For all those haters out there whining 'she's so totally ripping off Madonna in this song.' Here's Lady Gaga's 'No shit, Sherlocks' video.

Well, played, Gaga. Well played."

That said, this is easily my least favorite song on The Fame Monster CD. Thank god she pulled through with some beautiful and porny visuals for it. Otherwise, it would've been a double-miss for me.

One of the reasons I love the Boys Boys Boys song isn't for the song itself, but for all memories it evokes, and how pays homage to a particular style of music that might be cheezy, but goddamn it's got a special place in my heart.

I couldn't remember if you liked ABBA or not, and with not liking the Gaga song, I thought I remembered incorrectly. Yeah, I was thinking that, so you can try and kick my ass, but you'll have to catch me first...and I always have Crisco in the trunk of my car. *Don't ask.*

As for the dance party (after attempted ass-kicking and whatnot), we should make that action happen. STAT. That would be a trip and a half, homie. ;)

The lyrics talk about Gaga defending herself against a harem of Latin men and has a number of ABBA allusions, including a reference to their 1976 song "Fernando", which Gaga cited as one of her influences. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alejandro_(song))

Gaga herself says Fernando influenced this song. I'm going back to listen again for the direct reference. That must be what triggered it for me.

I am very-very happy to watch Gaga bringing back the 80s one video at a time. :) She can be all the Madonna and Dale Bozzio that she pleases.

Also ABBA - I think it's the way she sings the name "Alejandro" and follows it with 'Fernando' that points directly to the ABBA spot in my brains.

This song is actually "the Sign" from Ace of Base. It has the same Casio samba, and unless I miss my guess, the same cord progression and key. Mashup ready if you ask me. daLady's other stuff was far less formulaic. I'm going to cross post this.
