The light at the end of this particular tunnel
I can see it, and it doesn't sound like a train.
Only one major snafu at the conference today, and I think I covered it fine. Of course there are always the minor annoyances, but you can't let those bother you or you'll wind up in a corner, biting your knees.
A couple people were very kind with their compliments about the level of organization for this conference. That was nice. Someone else pulled out the Claudia Black comparison, which I hadn't heard in a long time. That was nice, too, on a very different level.
I teared up a bit getting James Morrow's autographs. He was very patient signing my six books. I think there was one person who had more than I did, but he had multiple copies of things, which I always think is a little sleazy. Mr. Morrow took the time to write something specific about each book. For Towing Jehovah: "To Lydia, who would never leave God unburied" which I find delightfully vague and open to at least two wildly divergent interpretations. I told him that Only Begotten Daughter had a major impact on me when I read it in my early 20s. Perhaps I actually used the words "changed my life." *cough* Which it did, but in ways I didn't realize until much later. In it, he wrote: "For Lydia, who understands. Best Wishes, James Morrow (who was happy to change your life)"
I put in nearly eight hours today, which is...fine. I wish I'd thought to get approval for the time from our department chair. I don't know if it'll work to claim the time retroactively. Even if she did approve it. It's not like I'd get paid for it, but the comp time would be nice.
I got home at 4:30, ate lunch, lay down on the couch, and woke up at 6:10. My brain still feels sluggish, but my body is nice and rested. Yay? An annoying combination. I wish I had a working car right now, so I could run some errands. I suppose I should do laundry instead.

And as an example of how the internet has made interactions with authors smaller and weirder, check this out.
Tell me that's not awesome--and a terrifying reminder of how small is our world. Would you not freak the fuck out if that was you?

which brings me to another thing. I would like to have you as a guest at Room Con 8 (2012, I am already planning for the future). i will let you know what guest, as i am still working on a little some thing for that year. And it all depends on what that person says, to figure out the theme....

o_O
It's a shame, really, because I love Vegas so much. Love love love it. Used to go regularly for an international rockabilly convention, but haven't been in over five years now. Tragic.
I'd be honored to be a guest in 2012! Sweet thing. Please tell me there's a THEME OF DESTRUCTION in the works...

Jesi Lipp is New York New York
Bland Lemon Denton is the Flamingo
Robin Bailey is the Luxor
David Lee Anderson Space Quest Casino (inside the hilton casino) he didn't know a casino, but said if there was one with space/sci-fi as a theme, that would be his. Between the stardust, orbit inn and the space quest casino... well space quest won.

Color me unsurprised.
Heartbreakingly, the Aladdin Casino is no more. I didn't even get to say goodbye! =( With its demise, my fave three are The Bellagio, The Venetian, and The Luxor. With Luxor already taken, I'll have to think of a third to suggest to him. Hmmm.
