Putting my money where my mouth is

I debated posting about this. I'm still not sure it's the right decision. But better to regret the things you did than regret the things you didn't.

I bought a share of Iwig Dairy. Did I pull money out of savings? Yes. Did I feel comfortable doing that? No. Did I prefer that over feeling like a hypocrite every morning when I poured their delicious cream into my coffee? Yes.

Please consider buying a share. Get together with a couple other people and split a share if you can't afford the whole $500 yourself.

The deadline is July 23. If you live locally and put your check in the mail today, it should arrive in Topeka by Thursday.

Are they going out of business or something?

Yep. =(

Their website has lots of info on how to help (http://www.iloveiwig.com/download/may_14_newsletter_from_iwig_family_dairy.pdf).

Go you! This seems like a pretty good investment (morally and socially, at least, if not strictly financially, though obviously you would know more about that than I).

It came down to: "Will I still be able to buy groceries next month if I do this?" The answer was yes. So...

Thank you! Yay for involvement in local food!

Oh man. I'm in such dire straits that I don't have anywhere near a $500 cushion, but I love Iwig Dairy and I love the folks who run it. Maybe I can find some way to help, even if it's only $50 or so. :(

I'll send your spirit along with my check! =D

I asked them in May about smaller donations and they weren't set up for that. Unfortunately. Just keep buying their milk!

It's too bad they don't have a way for people sign up on a list for half & quarter shares, and then put those people together to buy a share. But I'm sure that would be a logistical nightmare.

Yeah, I'm sure the last thing they want to do is organize something like that when they're trying to save their farm.
