No more dairy

Since my Whole30 wrapped on on August 31, I've been re-incorporating certain foods.

The wine re-introduction went great.

Alas, milk products--including fermented ones--are a no-go. I've had minor stomach upset all day, every day I've eaten them. For a week. I do okay with small and occasional pats of butter on vegetables. But not kefir or yogurt. I hoped the tummy upset could be blamed on monthly issues, but the G.I. unhappiness has continued, days after the other concluded.

Much. Sadness. I'll miss you, Brown Cow Cream Top yogurt!

I must research other ways to repopulate my gut flora. I'm disinclined to use the So Delicious cultured coconut milk too often. It's tasty, but wow is it heavily processed. I bet I could make my own coconut milk yogurt. I'll look around for recipes and reviews.

Oh, I had one of those recipes somewhere, I'll look for it!

I dunno what I'll do if I ever have dairy issues.

Actually, I already found several. It's no different than making it with milk!

Cool! I thought I remember it being pretty simple.

Ooh, found Homemade Coconut Milk in a VitaMix! (http://www.elanaspantry.com/diy-coconut-milk/ target=_blank)

And omgoodness, lookit all the recipes here (http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com/recipes.php#Coconut-Milk target=_blank) for various things.. I like the substitute for a cheesecake crust using nuts and dates.

Ditto!

Well, actually, what I would do would be to just not eat it. I don't feel the need to give up my wonderful, beloved cheese and yogurt because I don't immediately feel any negative effects when I eat it. If I did, my attitude about giving it up would likely be different.

Ha! Exactly. I mean...what else you gonna do? Walk around with a bellyache all the time? Nope. Not me, anyway.

Largely thanks to doing the Whole30 experiment seriously hardcore, I'm cool with ditching entire genres of food. Emotional/mental attachments are gone now. It's awesome.

i know someone who used to make her own soya yoghurt - it was delicious, and better than anything you could buy. coconut milk yoghurt sounds like very heaven!

I'll definitely let you know what I think, once I have the opportunity to make it!

Oh! I *JUST READ* a coconut milk yogurt recipe and thought "oh! must try!" but now I forget where that was. I will ponder and then post it when I find it!

Er, editing to add that now that i have read the other comments, forget what I said about posting the one I remembering seeing, since you have some! :)

Ha! Well if you have one that you think looks especially delicious (and foolproof), feel free to chime in.

I just wanted to say that reading your posts about your diet, and Whole30, and Paleo eating has really inspired me. I'm probably never going to commit myself as much as you have - I like food, lots of different types of food, a lot, and my body doesn't require me to not eat certain things. But I know I need to change how I eat, and reading your lj helps me convince myself I can do it. Right now, I'm going "vegan before dinner," and for dinner, I'm trying to follow pretty strictly the "one half of plate veggies, one half lean meat, one half whole grains." So, thanks for convincing me I can do it!

If you say you can do it, you can do it. It's those people who immediately start in with the "oh, I could never do that" before making an honest effort that are doomed to failure.

Best of luck on your path to healthful eating!

Good for you! You've seen how much it's helped me, just making a gradual change to eating (mostly) paleo, and if I can do it, anyone can ;-)
