Calling this game

I'm calling it quits on this current Whole30.

I want a glass of wine when I get home tonight, and I'm going to have a glass of wine when I get home tonight.

Thanks. It's been a hell of a three days and I am in some serious need for self-medication.

[identity profile] hdsqrl.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, now that's just funny, because I'm having one of those days, too. The Kahlua in the pantry is calling my name...LOUDLY. :p

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Luckily, I've lost my taste for the sweet liquors!

[identity profile] hdsqrl.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...I hadn't considered if I'd possibly NOT like it after this long without sugar. Well, I suppose if I hate it, there's enough beer/wine/other liquor in this house to get me through. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a shock to me, too. No more girly drinks for me! The taste is sometimes okay, but I do not like how I feel after drinking it. My head feels (heh) squirelly and it really upsets my tum.

Luckily, I'm all good with wine.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I've gotten to where I feel pretty crappy the day after having any kind of alcohol, even if it's a tiny bit. Not real thrilled with that.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's because I don't drink very often. I guess that's enough to remedy.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear ya!

Would it be a complete bust if you hopped back on it tomorrow and just call it a one day off?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
There's no such thing as one day off on a Whole30.

It's not like it was a competition or anything. I just didn't complete this one. I learned what I needed to (limit nuts, and booze only once or twice a week). If I feel like trying it again at a later date, I shall.

Edit: Did that sound catty? Wasn't intended. Sorry!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)

haha! Now you know I wouldn't take it that way.

I think limiting nuts is good on Soooo many levels ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
My emotional equilibrium is absolutely shot and I'm not taking anything for granted at the moment. Including my own behavior.

BLAH.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I really hate hearing/reading things like "I'm a mess right now so forgive me in advance if I'm a bitch." That's bullshit. I'd rather apologize for each circumstance, and better safe than sorry, right?

*kiss*kiss*

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)

It's all good. No harm, no foul here.

You missed my meaning on "limiting nuts".. I meant nuts in the way of goofy ass people, LOL.

Muchos huggos.
and.. *clink* I'm having a small glass to offset the pain pill effect of getting bunged up.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant nuts in the way of goofy ass people

Ha ha ha ha ha! So true!

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That might be harder than limiting actual nuts . . .

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding!

[identity profile] auroraceleste.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I hit my zen. It doesn't even sound appealing right now.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You go with your awesome rocking Zen! That's great!!!!

[identity profile] femfataleatron.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I do this thing called Partial26™. It doesn't have a cool website (or any rules) but you can drink high quality wine every other time someone offers it to you, unless you lose count... On this plan its assumed that the highest number you can conceive of is seven. I'm not sure where the 26 comes in. I didn't read that far.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
HA HA HA HA HA!

That is awesome.

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That is not a quit -- it is a temporal sideloop -- take the trip right back onto the Whole30 track.

The trouble with most dieting including mine is that we see one slip as a quit, when it really isn't. Last diet I went out to lunch with John Daniel every Sunday, eating modestly off whatever menu. It was not "on my diet", but the diet was successful with these little weekly excursions.

:)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I am quitting this Whole30. I'm not interested in re-starting it.

I learned what I needed to out of it, and am moving on from here!

[identity profile] fairgoldberry.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand. I've had to step back a fast or personal dietary challenge due to external stressors sometimes.

I haven't researched the difference fully because they don't mesh with my needs and preferences, but it seems like the Whole30 is the more intensive 'challenge/reset' program where the Whole9 is more of a guideline to daily eating, right?

It would seem that the Whole30 is best done when you're not under other external stresses, and if other stresses put you in a situation where adhering to the Whole30 becomes an additional load on you, it's patently *not* doing what it's supposed to be doing. Once it stops improving your life and becomes an onerous set of restrictions, then it's not helpful any more, and I think you're smart to shift back to your regular healthy eating pattern, since it's supportive and healthy for you.

Sorry you're having a rough week. I can *really* relate.

Much love,
Rowan

Sorta. Whole9 is the consultation/trainer business for Melissa Urban and Dallas Hartwig. Whole30 is their hardcore/clean-it-up eating program, which even they don't do 100% all the time!

if other stresses put you in a situation where adhering to the Whole30 becomes an additional load on you, it's patently *not* doing what it's supposed to be doing

You got it on those nose. Thank you for putting it so succinctly and accurately!

*raises own glass* Cheers. ;) I've had a hell of a day meself.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
*clink*

I only wound up drinking about a quarter cup, but it was nice.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Does this mean WINE on Sunday?

[identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Would that I could come and help.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I quit the day I told my coffee maker to fuck off just because I had to drink its nectar without half-n-half. It gave me a deadpan look that said, "Really? Fuck off? I'm an appliance."

So, I started putting half-n-half in my coffee again, and my appliances no longer think I'm an idiot. I think.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha!

Man, I miss being able to drink Iwig heavy cream...that's the one piece of information I didn't appreciate after cleaning up my eating act.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...Iwig. I was happy to drink some of that again.

I tried drinking cream, and it was a little too much for me. Perfect in coffee though. But the whole milk? Hmm....

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I buy the whole milk for [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick to use in his coffee and smoothies. He loves it!

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, yeah. Having some of that whole milk in my cold-pressed, reheated coffee right now. With a few shakes of Dutch process cocoa in it.

OMG yum. In case you haven't yet explored the wonderfulness that is cocoa with milk, let me just say: DO IT. The milk adds all the mildness needed to make the unsweetened cocoa drinkable, and the concoction tastes like fine hot cocoa. Well, I guess it is, really, isn't it? Yum.

Anyhow: No sugar but all the joy of chocolate. That's what I'm talking about.

you deserve a glass of wine at the end of the day, it is good for body and spirit!
