Small blessings

KU is opening two hours late today. This means I get to have my coffee and breakfast before I go out to shovel the sidewalk. That's a pleasant thing!

Seven inches of snow is a lot of snow for Lawrence. I don't think it's terribly sticky snow, though, so that's another blessing. It'll make for easier shoveling.

It was light and fluffy on the vehicles, Jbird "broomed off" our drive first and it worked.
Yay, breakfast and coffee and late starts!

We need to buy an outside broom, for real.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)

Or a new one for indoors?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm! There's an idea! That would mean I could sweep after I shovel the back patio...which I can't do until [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick wakes up. But it means it would get done before one of us can make a trip to Cottin's!

I just did the back steps out to broom off the hot tub and didn't even need the shovel... just picked it up w/ the broom head and then swept away the remaining. Yay!

Snow! And a late start! And coffee! :D

Even better? Our neighbor to the north (whose sidewalk I've shoveled for the past two or three years) shoveled her sidewalk and the remaining two feet of our sidewalk, past her own property line! That was the best surprise ever.

I refuse to shovel before breakfast and full daylight. Both Marz and the kids have the day off, so I'm in no rush.

Nice for you for having that option. My sidewalk has heavy morning traffic. I don't want to shovel tramped-down snow.

You have a point, there is no sidewalk on my side of the street. You also have the advantage of not being trapped in the house with your family all day, which is great motivation for me to get the drive shoveled.

You have a point. I'm very grateful that I never feel trapped with my family.

I shoveled my driveway. My driveway. Three times*. In the hopes that Mac could actually get up it when he got home.

Then I woke up, and it was covered again. So I get to shovel again. But it should be easy since the snow is not sticky and I've already shoveled three times.

(*Due to bad timing on when I thought Mac would get home after he texted me that he had left work. And it wasn't as bad as in years past because I bought a pair of Yaktrax, and they are awesome at keeping me standing on my driveway.)

I love me my YakTracks so much.

I think I need to get a new pair this year, though.

I love my Sorels so very effing much. I've had them for something like 18 years now and they still keep my feet happy. Gonna go take a shoveling shift outside soon now...we require each of three teens to take a turn as well. With a corner lot and a big driveway, there's just too much to expect any one person to get it all done. Sanely, anyway. :)

Good grief, you're making me feel lucky that I've never had to deal with this stuff. You must have killer heating bills to boot?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The heating bills aren't cheap, but ours aren't so bad as some, we keep our house temp set pretty low, and [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick did a lot of repair work this fall to make the house more insulated.

It is still a snowtrocity.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's pretty much ass.

You had the delay, Edwards campus was closed, all school districts and the WYCO govt. was closed but did KUMC? Noooo, not even a delay!!!!!

Ugh. I guess they figure if you have a horrible accident on the way to work, you're already part of the way to a medical center.
