Dear Government: Get the fuck off our bodies
The USDA has presented a woefully late-to-the-game revision of their eating guidelines for staying healthy. Those last several they gave us have been real winners! Unsurprisingly, there are a very few gems in their load of crap, but most of it is still a load of crap. Here is an extensive blog post by someone smarter than I am, who pretty much picks the whole thing apart, point by point.
People bitch all the time about government. People don't want the government in their health care. People don't want the goverment in their personal lives. People don't want the government telling them what to say. Why do those same people listen to the government's advice on what to put in their bodies? It makes no sense. None.
And while we're on the topic of government and bodies, everyone's aware of the horrors being proposed all over the place about investigating miscarriages, and putting ridiculous limits on abortion availability, right? It wasn't enough to try to destroy Planned Parenthood. So much for personal freedoms and small government, Republicans.
Admittedly batshit-insane Bobby Franklin proposes a law that would define a miscarriage as "prenatal murder" and put the bereaved mother at risk of the death penalty.
Yeah, you might think "this'll never pass," but people, we thought a lot of things couldn't happen. Like, you know, the reintroduction of public executions.
And a little (lot) closer to home--just a few hundred miles to the north of us here in Lawrence--Nebraska suggests a bill that would allow the "justifiable homicide" plea that Dr. Tiller's murderer was denied.
This shit is happening, people, and it's happening all over. Start fighting. Start writing. Start talking. I know, I know, I want to bury my head in the sand, too. I want that so bad. I can't. We can't.
Get your dander up and get active.
