Ride ride pony tonight

I really want to go club dancing. I wish ConQuesT still had an evening dance. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick said "Well why don't you organize it?" My response was something along the lines of...

Maybe next year. *shrug*

Over the weekend we watched Natural Born Killers, which I'd never seen before. Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick was pretty surprised, too. "This just seems like your type of movie," was his comment. Whatever. Geez. I have to admit, it was. Like Boogie Nights, or Clockwork Orange, it's one of those movies that has so much to say, and is amazingly well done, but it's so stressful. I'm glad to have seen it, but I don't know that I'd be up for a second viewing anytime soon.

I've been listening to Lady Gaga's YouTube channel the past couple days, since the whole new album (or pretty much) is available for listening. While I'm still firmly in the Hate Camp for "Born This Way," many of the album's songs are things of beauty. "You and I" is a damn fine song for real*. But for hysterical nuttiness, I've yet to find lyrics to beat "Highway Unicorn." Oh My God that is some funny shit, there, people. And danceable!

Wanna go dancing.

* Update: So is "Edge of Glory." Fucking awesome song.

I wanna go dancing!

Are there any good clubs in KC?

I think I'm going to have to say "I don't get it" for the Unicorn lyrics. (I haven't listened to it yet either.)

I hated the "Born this Way" video. I REALLY am not interested in seeing childbirth of anything.

You don't get them. Hence "hysterical nuttiness." You just let them roll over you and delight in the sound of the words put together. Like most Duran Duran songs.

AH! I like those kind of songs where the lyrics just sound good together. Much of Moist's music was like that.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've never been one to need sense in my song lyrics, either. Which is a good thing since I came of age in the 80s.

Love the NO kitty.

Count me in the surprised camp for NBK. Woody Harrelson is my favorite mean guy, although he did an amazing sad blind man in Seven Pounds (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0814314/).
Seven Pounds is a thing of beauty, but in a whole different way, the "bring tissues", this is eerily beautiful way.

I found the NO kitty on this tumblr blog (http://fuckyeahreactions.tumblr.com/). Enjoy!

I have no idea.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh*

Me, neither.

Funkytown? (http://www.yelp.com/biz/funky-town-kansas-city#hrid:gBMwfg8yVLeATDAiFzuv3Q)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno. I went there once, and it was way more 70s than I like. The people were nice enough, but it wasn't my type of dance music. =/

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Boo then.

You know, Wilde's Chateau here in town doesn't do a completely bad job of it. I've shaken it there a couple times a couple years ago.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
oh that was fun!! I snagged a good one.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I went a couple years ago on the Friday night 80s night, too. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't enough to get me excited about going back, either. =(

"capital ach-eye-emm"...
Capital BARF!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding. That song just sucks donkey balls.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)

Yeah.. let's face it, there are no dance clubs like the 80s dance clubs!
Mebbe we should ask Shane in KC?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a bad idea. I hate relying on the gay bars to get my dance on, though, you know? I feel like I'm horning on on their space.

What I really want is the old Sellout back. Time machine, please!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)

*sigh*

I KNOW.

Chola or Orient-raised? Really? Really really?

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I like how contrived and ridiculous "Born This Way" is. It sounds like she actually decided "We need a new Madonna. I AM THAT WOMAN. TO ME, MY CLUBMOS!" It's soulless, silly and really, really contrived, but it's so ruthlessly soulless, silly and contrived that I can't ignore the ambition to it.

But, yeah. It's not a conventionally "good" song, and she's good enough at making conventionally good pop music that it's sort of a wash.

[identity profile] belluthien.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Omgosh I love that cat's face. I can just see you with it! Yes.

Look forward to seeing you this weekend. =)

Yes! Dancing or no dancing, it will be great to see you again!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds like she actually decided "We need a new Madonna. I AM THAT WOMAN. TO ME, MY CLUBMOS!"

Have you heard "Judas," "Bloody Mary," and "Black Jesus?" *eyeroll* She's taken the Madonna thing way too far and I hope she gets it the fuck out of her system with this album, already because (as [livejournal.com profile] shrijani would say) sweet shrieking jesus it is getting old.

The songs that aren't contrived and insulting, though, are fantastic.

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's old, but it's pretty much a given that we will have a Madonna every generation... and Madge isn't pulling her weight anymore.

Haven't heard much else from the album yet, as I have enough other music to listen to (Raphael Saddiq's "Stone Rollin"? FANTASTIC. GET IT NOW. Guitar-driven retro-soul that doesn't sound contrived.) Need to give it a listen soon, though, as it's sitting in the queue.

I actually like the video, largely because I like Rick Genest, Thierry Mugler's new model. It's a mess, though, and a less occulty mess than her other videos... which makes it less fun for me.

So, what's your costume this year?
