Gah! Interesting. Does KU allow you to do it without charging you sick-leave etc?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there's a special payroll code for it. Probably like Administrative Leave.

Bleh. The worst part is the day-long process just to see if you get picked or not. booorrring.

I must remember to bring a book.

Also, bring snackables in your bag, there's fuck-all but a candy machine and coffee there.

So glad I have that little thermal lunchbox thingy.

I'm a Wade I never get picked, they go alphabetically though so I have to sit there ALL DAY. Maybe you'll get dissmissed quickly.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the silver lining! Poor you, though.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Douglas County doesn't go alpha, they just herd you all in at once and then start the "have you ever..?" questions to start culling the ones who can't serve on that particular trial.
The part that makes me feel unnerved is the defendant being right there observing the whole process.
I hope it's a simple one-day sort of trial if you do get picked.

the defendant being right there observing the whole process

That's fucking creepy.

Just buy a T-shirt that reads "fuck the police" and wear it when you show up.

You'll be back at work by noon.

There's a note at the bottom of the form that says:

WHEN REPORTING FOR SERVICE...please dress appropriately. Remember you are being called to assist the judicial branch of your government.

Concerning my thoughts on our judicial system, they probably should have worded that in a way that was less open to interpretation.

Okay, how about a shirt that says:

FUCK THE COURT

Huh, I just got a form to fill out regarding jury duty as well. Or, well, some sort of form that says I might be considered sometime between Sept 1 and the end of the year, whatever that means. :\ Never have been called before, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness, that's a long time. Mine is only from September 12 through 23. Whew!

Last time I did it it was kind of interesting.

Every work place is REQUIRED to let you out, and most pay you, especially govt, though they may want your crappy 10 a day of Jury money.
