The week that was

Holy jeez. Been a while.

The trip to Omaha was fine. The drive up was stressful because of weird detour issues and it taking a lot longer than reported. We didn't have time to stop by [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's brother's house or the grocery store before the wedding rehearsal, but went straight to the church once we reached the city. From the church we went to the father of the groom's for dinner. There were two things I could eat (a grilled chicken breast and some canned olives) at the rehearsal dinner, so I was relieved.

I woke up on Saturday with one of Those Headaches. Not optimal. During the pre-ceremony photo session I was able to lay down in the side chapel, though, and managed to fall asleep just enough to get the edge off. That was one benefit to attending a Catholic wedding. Side chapel FTW. The wedding party had to be a the church at noon for photos, and reception ended at 11:00pm. So that was Saturday.

By Sunday I was done with people. I hid in the basement and pretended to be asleep for a few hours in order to avoid being a very unpleasant person. Seventy-two hours of non-stop exposure to people--especially people I didn't know well--was beyond my limit. And when I say non-stop exposure I mean [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I even shared a sleeping room. My only refuge was the bathroom, and with many people staying in the house, the bathroom wasn't somewhere I could really hang out, you know? Plus, well, bathroom.

I met and got along great with one of [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's cousins, though. I also hit it off with one of the other groomsmen. I'm not saying people weren't nice (although some of them were super clique-ish), but my god so many people and for so long.

The dress looked great. And got a few compliments. So yay. What people really went nuts over were my shoes. I got probably five comments from total strangers about them. Two of the shoe compliments were from men. I mean, I know they're awesome, but wow. And I have to say, after wearing them for more than twelve hours, I'm ready to hunt down more pairs. My feet were fine when I finally got the shoes off after midnight.

The biggest problem of the weekend for me was I never had time to go to a grocery store, as planned. So I didn't eat much during the weekend. That probably didn't help my energy and tolerance levels. I tried to think of it as practice for my dancer-day fasts at KCRF. Ha. Ha-ha. Oh, and on Saturday night I burned my leg on the exhaust pipe of the Crossfire. Don't ask. It doesn't hurt now (unless I touch it), but it's going to leave a scar.

I'm fine with not going to Omaha again for a long time.

Home Sunday night. Slept for crap. Didn't feel like doing much on Monday due to exhaustion and G.I. unhappiness from the weird and infrequent eating over the weekend.

Monday night I went to the Deke Dickerson show at Knuckleheads. Disappointing. Deke's an amazing musician and usually puts on a fantastic show, but this one...it was like he was just phoning it in. Granted, they were an hour late because of car trouble coming up from Dallas. But still. There was this schtick thing going where their bass player was dressed up as a gorilla and that would've been fine, a few monkey jokes here and there, but the chatter was excessive and boring, and there was way too much time between songs while Bass Player Gorilla had to readjust stuff because he couldn't see very well through the mask, and to be honest he wasn't really that great of a player to begin with, so his already-not-stellar abilities were hampered by the costume. Blah. My ride and I agreed to leave after the first set.

Tuesday, thankfully, was productive. I feel like I got my vacation-time's worth out of taking that day off. I have four warm-weather cholis, now. I also got a bit of relaxation accomplished--mmmm, sitting my ass on the couch and re-reading a beloved book.

I haven't exercised a lick in over a week, and my months of exercise leading up to faire have been pretty weak. Literally. My two performance days this weekend will be interesting. Medic!

You have just described one of my nightmares. And there was no mention of booze, which might have made it tolerable. CHAMPION.

At least the weekend forecast isn't looking as atrocious as it could. Last I looked, Sun and Mon might be in the low 80s!

ps we should schedule our Fun Time Days if we're going to pick one or two other than the grand Columbus Day Tradition!

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, we got nice Spanish red wine, so that was all good!

FUN TIME DAYS! Oh, you mean at Faire ;-) Might I suggest more movie nights? Just sayin'.

PS: CR, you were awesome. Thank you.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Movie nights, YES. But also, it is Fun Time Days at Faire with us and our flasks. You should try it sometime. You will not be disappointed.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love to join y'all some time for that! I just assumed that stinky boys weren't invited ;-)

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
This is where I back off slowly and let CR answer. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe we have one day with one particular stinky boy and one day without.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Good plan! :D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You have just described one of my nightmares.

Usually my nightmares consist of me falling off a boat or spiders dropping on me. I can now add Weddings In Omaha to that short list.

There was booze, but with as little as I was eating, I was afraid to drink much. =(

FUN DAYS YES.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes. If only booze really could substitute for a meal...

Those ARE awesome shoes. I love the Clarks Indigo line; they are always so comfy and quirky, like Fluevogs at half the price.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha ha ha! Yes. I've never owned a pair of Fluevogs, and probably never will. But I love my Clarks Indigo!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Muchos fun. Not. Except for wine and shoe compliments. :)

Speaking from experience, and Jeep exhaust scars...
Get real aloe gel from a plant and natural E capsules.
You've not seen my burn scars, right? I rest my case.
Also, if it's really bad.. squeemishy scab soaking and scraping, but it's necessary to avoid the possible infection and cell die-off.

Sorry to hear that the Deke show didn't go well. Bleh.

Still.. glad to hear you survived it all.

=D

Guess I'll have to go purchase an aloe plant, then. That'll happen on tonight's errands! Luckily, it's not that bad. I could put weight on the leg right away, which is more than I can say for the time I got a motorcycle burn.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I ought to get one again, too. They're so great for other things than burns. The gel feels wonderful as a facial too.

I hope someone got a good pic of you--want to see the whole outfit cuz the shoes are kickin!

Sorry you had to endure your definition of hell.

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday. It's been a while. I'll enjoy the catch up.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Nobody did, I don't think. I should have thought to ask [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick to get a photo of the outfit. Dang!

Hey, are eggs happening again this year?

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Solidarity fist bump.
I was pretty worried about fair when I was tired walking up the hill to my car. But tired is my catch phrase. EVERYONE asks if I'm tired, I must look great(not looking great) the bags under my eyes are not just trunks, but the superhero trunks from Joe VS the Volcano.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor thing. *pat*pat*

[identity profile] pointoforigin.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh lordy, the all-people, all the time, family weekends!! Very smart move, retiring to the basement. Also congratulations on finding two things you could eat. ; )

I'm fine with not going to Omaha again for a long time. That would make either a great first line for a novel, or a title for a short story.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-09-01 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I once entertained the idea of writing personal essays, but I decided I'd rather sew and do arty stuff. A girl can only have so many hobbies before she starts to stretch herself a little thin.

Those shoes are absolutely fabulous.

mmmm, sitting my ass on the couch and re-reading a beloved book.

I love to hear other people share this comfort conduct!

And how!
