Beneficial

The benefit performance went mostly well. I had no small amount of stress when I realized that I'd left my boombox at home, so had no backup option for my music should the MP3 player not work with the Musical Blades' soundboard. Which, of course, it didn't since I had the wrong sort of cable. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick put on his Rescuer Cap and ran to Best Buy where he bought the correct cable and we were good to go. He also, bless his heart, bought me a boombox (which we'll be returning today) in case the cable didn't work. The first two sets went great, but on the third set my MP3 player kept pausing during the music. I don't know for sure what happened, but [livejournal.com profile] radiantmephit theorized that the (very) heavy bass from the last song caused enough vibrations on the table where the player was resting that it made the player stall. Ah, well. I soldiered on with zills (if all else fails with my music, at least I always have my zills) and made it a short set. The show was running long, anyway.

We skipped out early because I was really fucking hungry at that point, and so missed the last few acts. I also missed picking up my damn veil (which I either left near the table with the sound equipment, or let fall from my bag on the way out the door). That's sad-making, but of all my costume pieces, that was probably the most easily mourned.

It felt good--really good--to dance to music again. No slight intended toward my magnificent drummers of Egotista, but dancing to something other than just a rhythm, and knowing the music well enough to throw in song-appropriate combos and accents is wonderful. I had several people (most notably Daniel of The Rogues) say things like "Wow. That was so much different than what you do at Smoker, and it was amazing. I had no idea." That made me feel really good.

My Best Moment that probably nobody recognized as a Best Moment was when I managed to do a (very gentle and modified) Turkish Drop onto the linoleum floor to retrieve my veil. I haven't done one of those in years because I was starting to bang up my knees. It wasn't as dramatic as the fast drop I used to do, but the whoops and hollers when I collapsed into it were very gratifying.

We skipped out early (apologies most notably to the members of the LMC) so I could get home to fucking eat something already. I hope the rest of the show went well. Ed from the Blades mentioned on F-book that the event raised somewhere around $5 thousand. That's amazing. I was happy and honored to be a part of this production.

And now I have a cabaret costume again. Minus a kick-ass skull-and-crossbones circular veil.

You were amazing! It is a singular call to watch when you perform and it seemed moreso with the music set-up last night.

How lovely of you to take the responsibility for leaving early all on yourself. I remember it differently. I changed into street clothes and made sad faces until we were in the car. Classic party pooper. But we had had alot of fun by that point and we did last four hours, which is pretty outstanding. Those folks know how to throw a party and I am thrilled to hear about the profits. It felt like we were getting somewhere as people kept ordering more (crap) beer and continuing to tip. Love that vibe.

Yay costumes!

I'm very glad you had a good time and we got to drive in together. Yay all around!

XOXO

We all knew you would prevail!

Yes, I am resisting a veil pun, and I am appropriately ashamed.

ETA...
a slow and cautious TD is so much more impressive than a bloop/plop drop.... good for you... uh, I know you know what I mean.

Indeed! [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy found it and I'll get it from her next week. Yay!

Yay!

Even with the technical issues it was fun to watch you dance. I'm like [livejournal.com profile] hdsqrl in that you could repeat combinations and moves and I'd never know it. Thank you for sharing your talent (and beautiful new costume) with us. :-)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, thank you!

Yup, this. It's funny, when we were sitting on the floor, watching you, I realized Amber and Dani were all WOOOOO'ing, while I sat silently, and that made me feel guilty, so I started WOOO'ing, too. Not that I wasn't thinking something along the lines of WOOOOO the whole time, heh. Or maybe it was more like: humma-na-humma-na-humma-na. Whatever - you were amazing, and if the WOOOO's are how you'll know we love you, I'll WOOOO with the best of them. :)

[identity profile] renniemom.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I have honestly never asked if WOOO's are appropriate. We just wanted people to tune in and focus on her awesomeness and that's an easy way to do direct the attention of the masses. [livejournal.com profile] chernobylred--is it acceptable to WOOOO you? (I assume you will flat out tell me if we make a faux pas like that.)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Your WOOOOs were immensely appreciated. Thank you! *kiss*kiss*

Or maybe it was more like: humma-na-humma-na-humma-na

Ha ha ha ha ha!

And I think you were WOOOOing with the best of them, sweetie.

It was a great night. Glad we found your veil.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
ME TOO!

[identity profile] theoneinblue.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yay dancing! I miss watching you dance.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I miss you, just in general.
