I lead and follow

Little Rachel is back in town for a visit and is playing an early Jazzhaus show with The Rhythm Busters. Music starts at 7:00. Only a five-dollar cover! Join me? I wouldn't mind having a girl or two who'd be willing to swing dance with me...just saying. I'm not the world's worst lead, I promise.

I'm trying to decide how I'm going to fit dinner and dance practice into my evening before I go to the show. I'm thinking one is going to get short shrift and it probably shouldn't be dance practice. On Wednesday, I did a ten-minute shimmy warm-up, then drills, then a couple combos, and finally some improv. I wrapped it up with a short, basic yoga series I found on Yoga Journal (minus Upward Bow Pose, because bitch, please). It was only sixty minutes all told, and I should probably make more time for practicing actual dance, but it was a good start. I need to make a Dance, Practice, Repeat icon, a la [livejournal.com profile] miischelle.

That sounds like a lot of fun, and I would love to go with you. Unfortunately, I already have a bridesmaid dress shopping trip on the books. Have fun without me!

Upward bow pose. Ow.

I can hold the pose, but I can't get up there by myself. I have to start on the ground and have someone pull my hips up. Then I need help getting down, too. It's a little awkward.

I'm pretty sure my posture isn't the one required by the pose, but I can do that pose, get to it, get down from it, but afterward I'd be seeing stars for several minutes. ;-)
