Breaking news

Hey! It's not Piriformis Syndrome after all! Awesome, right? Wrong! It's a bulging disk!

No more bending at the waist or rounding my back for a while, and those motions are probably something I should avoid from now on, just in general.

Burpees are completely off the menu.

Dr. Jones gave me three simple movements that I'm supposed to do several times a day for the next week, and I have another PT appointment on Thursday.

This body, I tell you what.

I am adding Burpees Cause Bulging Disks as one more item on my list of Reasons Not To Work Out.

Holy crap. Ice it, girl, ice it. :(

Oh hell. Well, I think that's better.. so to speak. But still.. painful.. ow, ow, ow.
Be gentle with yourself. We're like fine wines that only age well when we don't handle ourselves too roughly.

That's my story...

Well, shit. Ouch. I have a bulging disk in my neck. Bleh. Take care, sweetie.

On Thursday, I'll have suggestions for exercises that won't hurt one's lower back which I'll be happy to share. You know. If you're asking. =D

This is a good metaphor.

That said, I think this calls for some tub time. Email me and we'll set a date.

Ouchie. Poor you. Does icing it (as [livejournal.com profile] hdsqrl recommends above) help? I'm not willing to put cold shit on my skin this time of year unless I've got it on good authority that it helps. =D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
When it's flaring up, nothing helps quite like ice does. Which sucks, because I hate icing a whole effing lot. Otherwise, it's a matter of calibrating my exercise, stretching, a Certain Amount of NSAIDs (or whatever), and chiropractic.

Maybe I can crank up the heated mattress pad and lie on it with the cold pack tonight. I can do anything (well, almost anything) for fifteen minutes, right?

[identity profile] anomali.livejournal.com 2011-12-14 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ice, ice, baby!

(Do you have soft gel ice packs? Put them on for 10-15 mins every 2 hours or so for the first 48 hours.)

Last week, I had the new experience of icing my pubis. Wow, was that ever refreshing! (Actually, I hope to never ever experience that again.)

Imagine my amusement when this video popped up AFTER I typed my comment. Concerned yet silly minds think alike, I guess: )

:(

I knew my instinct was right about those burpees and backs! I quit after day five because I could just feel disc tragedy waiting to happen.

Well, as someone with two chronically unstable discs and, as you know, frequent and back outages that come for stupid non-reasons, you have my utmost sympathy for the whole freaking thing and all it entails.

You can do a sock filled with rice, frozen, and it doesn't seem as bad as ice. (Also we use that, microwaved, for heat.)

Best thing i ever did for my back was get the inversion table. decompression is key!

FFFUUU.

Since I was just diagnosed with a neck hernia, and have to give up karate, I feel you, 100%.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-12-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Disc tragedy is a good way to put it. I like to think I have a strong, healthy back, but I know (intellectually) that's probably not the case. Sadness. Because the burpees really were fun.

The frozen rice sounds like a great idea. Rice is going on the shopping list! How funny.

D'you think yoga headstands would do the same for decompression? I don't feel like investing the money and space into an inversion table...

*sympathy solidarity fistbump, bro*

Oh no! That's super-crappy, Chronovore. So sorry to hear it.

Thank you, Chris!

inorite?

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2011-12-14 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh nos! I guess we're glad it's this and not the other, but this sucks too!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-12-14 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm waffling on if I'm glad if it's this or the piriformis, tbh. Yeah, the piriformis is a longer treatment process, but the bulging disk issue is new and really the last thing I needed was some new fucking ailment.

I think I'm gonna call this one a draw for now.

[identity profile] shrijani.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
May I ask which vertebrae this disk is between?

Physical therapy was the only thing that helped me when I herniated the lowest disk in my spine in my early twenties. It was a very difficult time.

xo

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know for sure. I could point to it on me, but I'm not sure. Another question to ask him!
