Things are not going well
Figure-eights are now off the menu, too. Vertical or horizontal. *sigh*
The hip pain and leg numbness are much worse than yesterday, and the only thing I've done different is last night I did dance drills. So I ran through them all for Dr. Jones and when I started the figure-eights, he was all "okay, that's it." I can do hip lifts and drops and shimmies, but nothing where my hips twist forward, backward, or up/down. Yeah, right.
JFC.
And I have a performance in two months? This is great. Just really fucking great.

Right now I'm pretty much angry at everything and I wish I kept booze at the office.

That does not make sense.
Shimmies are okay, but twisting motions not?
*sigh*
My first thought is "oh great, he's another one that doesn't understand the mechanics of dance technique" because, of course, why would he, he's a doctor, not a trainer.
But yeh, probably best to go easy until you get it healed up... and DIDN'T THE BURPEES TEACH YOU A LESSON IN NOT OVERDOING THE TRAINING?
*grin*

Ah. okay, I'll slink back to my corner now.
Meh, I apologize, I'm probably being overreactive today.

You can still practice the shit out of other things, and plan to do whatever at the performance itself, just not worry about practicing everything until right before. If you're in great shape and all ready with lots of other stuff, you can easily add in things you haven't done lately, right?

No. Figure-eights are a huge portion of a belly dancer's vocabulary. It'd be like telling you to go to practice for a sparring match, but not to throw any roundhouse punches. Ever. And then expect you to go to the fight and win, despite not having incorporated those moves into any of your practice fights.

I'm being angry *with* you, not just near you. ;)
I'm sure that once the inflammation has settled down, the *gentler* lengthening stuff is GOOD for the disc issues. At least, that's been my experience, and of course, I imagine at which angle the disc is bulging makes a difference, too.
I feel the frustration. Plus, even Lady Gaga isn't shaking her lovely round butt in my supposedly animated gif, so double pisser.

(Also once put my back out just getting in the car at Best Buy. You know how when parked in a parking lot you open your door and then twist turn to get into your seat? that's all it took)

oh, ouch, and ouch! I have upper back/neck herniated discs, and one of my incidents was sneezing *in bed* that sent me through the roof.
My lower back will "go out" as well, but for me, it's not disc issues but the sacro-iliac joint slipping out of place. Interestingly, I fix it myself with a couple of Flexerils, a couple of pain pills and a long walk. Walking pulls it all back into place once the spasms cease. OH, and did I mention wine or whiskey? Yah, that helps too.

All that and a "oh for fuck's sake just fuck it" mentality, otherwise I would be in despair all the time about potential limitations and the stupid idiocy of losing days of my regular life due to turning to put f'ing onions on a tray. I mean, my back went out getting into car in parking lot, went out *another* time just backing out of the driveway - twisted looking over my shoulder, you know, and that position and the tiny bump transitioning from driveway to road and that was it. Jim had to come get me out of the car because I couldn't get out of sitting position. So, that's at least twice normal car operations have been Teh Devil.
And yet, I took a 9500 mile road trip alone with the child, so fuck you Back! :D

and, look, my back never went out and I never had any neurological Symptoms so what fool I be, had I not gone!
I'm actually kinda amazed that my back never went out at least once, at least a little, but I did also take muscle relaxers prophylactically quite a many nights before bed so maybe that helped.

Yes, the Fuck Off regimen.. good for whatever ails us.
and
Ooh, inversion.. thanks for the reminder, I need to go hang my head over the edge of the bed more often to stretch my neck out. This bowling ball on a pipestem gives me more grief than all the rest of my back combined.

They have hooks on them, so then you grab the bar, pull your feet up to it and hook on, like a jungle gym thing, then hang upside down.
See movie American Gigolo w/ Richard Gere, he had that set-up, did hellalot for sales back then.

Does muscle memory come into play at all? Meaning, if you are cleared in 2-3 weeks will you be able to pull it off for the untrained eyes of the masses?
I'm all about booze in the office this week.
::going to fill my water glass now::
no subject
Sure.
Will I perform as well as I want to, not having had the opportunity to practice sufficiently? No.
Was I hoping to pull out a really awesome performance for this? Yes.
Am I going to be able to? Probably not.
Edit: I'm still holding to the two-month challenge, though. Just gotta find something else to do on my movement days that were scheduled for dance drills for at least two weeks.

STOP IT!!!!
EDIT: also, I know you're terrible busy - got any free time Saturday?

The latter question is a good one, and I think I should probably ask about that at my next PT appointment.
