Fill me up!
I slept in until 6:30 this morning! Crazy times, people! What the holidays do to me, I tell you. It's positively degenerate around here. I am even having whiskey in my coffee, which is a violation of one of my objectives for the next two months (no hard liquor) but I have no regrets. Also, I'll be punching later today, and I should probably be sober for that, thus I need to get my first drunk of the day out of the way early, and I just can't bring myself to open a bottle of wine before noon. Champagne, yes, but it's too chilly in here for mimosas.
Yesterday I made a pretty gorgeous if-I-say-so-myself art card. It's my favorite of the ones I've made so far because I wasn't limited in the decorations of either side since it's not actually being posted--it's going to be shipped in a box with some other stuff. That also meant that I could embellish it in different ways--like affixing a door to the front. A door that opens. That bit was inspired by
siro_gravity's comment about a card opening (which wasn't designed to open) and I thought "but I could totally make a card that did open, if it didn't have to go through the mail." And so I did. And it really is beautiful. I would take a photo of it, but I have this thing about feeling like once I make these cards, they're no longer mine and I need to let them go, completely. Very Zen, no? You might also say Ephemeral. *ahem*
Boy, you'd never know I was drinking spiked coffee, would you?
We have a friend coming over at noon, and the living room is absolutely wrecked. I hope
mckitterick wakes up before I'm too drunk or it's too late to tidy up before the guest arrives. Mostly it's just wrapping paper and the few presents we got from family. But still. A mess. Perhaps I can try quietly folding up the paper. Although the last time I tried to do anything quietly this morning, I tripped over my netbook's powercord and nearly brought it (and the chair in which I was sitting) to the floor. So. Er. Hm.
Luckily for the clean-up, my unwrapping this year was minimal due to the early gifting of the motherfucking Frye boots of great beauty. Which I haven't worn nearly as much as I'd like due to the fact that I've been negligent in water-proofing them. Shameful. If the weather holds today, I'll put that on the to-do list. I don't think today's particular guest will complain about watching me put the rub down on a pair of knee-high boots.
Oh lookee-there! It's time for a refill on the coffee.
This time, I'll get up out of the chair on the other side. *nod*nod*

Me, I always hope the Sparrowhawk wakes up while I'm still just drunk enough. ; ) On Christmas Eve day, we took some of our kids out to find a place that was still open and had lunch suitable for vegetarians. And oh, guess what, the place we found also served hot toddies. For at least part of the day, my pre-holiday anxieties vanished and I was full of good cheer.
But the real point of this comment is to say I received the most beautiful card in the mail! Oo, lovely blue and images . . . even nicer than last year, if such a thing is possible. It's on my shelf right now between the aspen leaf my sister drew for me, and my mini-Stargate poster. The other one sits between feathers from a crow and a hawk, a ceramic fox mask, and a print of Leonardo's "Virgin and Child with St. Anne and St. John the Baptist." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Virgin_and_Child_with_St_Anne_and_St_John_the_Baptist) So, when you say you make gorgeous art cards, it's not just you saying so yourself. Thank you!! And happy punching! ; )

Wowee, what a great idea about the little door!! My card, though, is perfect exactly like it is.
I don't think you should start cleaning until
Have a great day!
Cheers, big ears!
(I used to have a Bristish friend who said that to me before each cocktail)

Things did eventually get tidied up a bit, and my pixie is coming over to do the Real Cleaning today. Hurray!
