Bitch party, table for one

The Latenight Callers' CD release party last night was faboo! And I again showed myself "person most likely to be involved in a throwdown in Kansas City" thanks to a drunken hippie asshole dude who thought it was a good idea to flail around in something I'm sure he thought resembled dancing while surrounded in close quarters by a lot of people not interested in joining his Grateful Dead moshpit of one.

JFC.

I did get a round of applause when I finally lost all patience, grabbed his arm (which was coming really close to hitting a guy in front of us) and told him to stop it or get off the floor. Someone standing nearby posted about it on Facebook.

And speaking of Facebook, I still hate it. I hate how public it is, and because of that, everyone is so invested in looking right. Or at least looking good. I posted a comment to someone's entry asking about lesbian bars in KC that contradicted someone's referencing of Buddies as a lesbian bar. My exact words:

Last time I went to Buddies (granted, this was three years ago), it was *not* a lesbian bar. If it was, I think the gentlemen at the establishment would have been Very Surprised.

Now, maybe I'm just not as delicate and sensitive as some people, but I wouldn't have felt the need to justify my (incorrect) suggestion. What, I was wrong about the demographic of a bar I'd never visited? So what? To be honest, if it wasn't a bar I frequented, I wouldn't go around telling people about the kind of clientele it attracts, but that's just me and my silly notions of wanting to know facts before I start spewing information.

But anyway, of course the person who originally suggested Buddies had to respond:

well, my certainty in its lesbian-affiliated status was never technically confirmed by me, which is why i stated "I am told" and also included the "*shrug*" - regardless, it is, if nothing else, queer friendly. and that is why I provided the list of other queer friendly joints.

I don't fucking care that you can justify your misinformation dude, and I doubt the OP does either. Trust me, it's not that important. I simply thought she should know that Buddies (unless something has changed) is not a lesbian bar--which is what she was specifically asking for in her post.

I'm pretty sure today is going to be an I Hate People day.

Chris and I had planned to go to the show, as one of his coworkers is a member of the Latenight Callers, but by the time the evening rolled around, the thought of going to (and okay, paying to get into) a loud, standing, crazy event that we'd really only be attending so he could tell his coworker that he'd gone and left as soon as their set was over, just seemed to be too much. :( I'm glad it was a good time, drunk guy notwithstanding.

Oh, cool! Small world. Which of the band members is the co-worker?

Next time they do a show where it's just them and another band, you should try to make it. They're really good.

I had to go find the article to get the spelling right: Krysztof Nemeth - Chris called me from work earlier this week and had me go look at the paper in which the band was featured. I asked which guy was his coworker, and he said Kris (Chris?) - that the name given in the paper must be a stage name, because he's just Chris or Christopher (or Kris or Kristopher, whatever) at work, but he pretty much dresses like he did for the photo shoot all the time. :) Prior to this, Chris had just been referring to him in work stories as "our design guy", lol.

Chris said he'd pick up their CD instead of hitting the show, but yeah, we'll likely make it to another (smaller, hopefully) one at some point. I checked out their website samples and like their sound.

Even smaller world! I'm acquainted with everyone in the band, but Krysztof is the only one I consider a friend. He even spent Thanksgiving with us this year! He's a super guy.

Whoa. Trippy!!

That hippie dude should go to a rainbow gathering. He'd fit right in, and they even have a special place AWAY from the camp for all the drunks.

Ha! If I ever see him again, I'll mention that to him. =D

How is LJ any less public (aside from when entries are friends-only) than FB?

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't. I have most of my Facebook stuff locked to people I've allowed on my "friend list." Anything I post to those friends are viewable to their friends or to the public, depending on their settings. Just like here.

The biggest issue with Facebook is they make you figure out privacy changes and opt out of sharing, rather than letting you opt-in.

I find that in many of the LJ communities I belonged to in the past, people act just like the above Facebook example. That's why I quit them all.

That's true of communities. But not, in my experience, of personal journals. At least not the ones of day-to-day people. Not the ones I read and comment on, anyway. Maybe it's a self-selecting reality.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's a usage issue, not a format thing. There's not eighty gazillion people reading LJ and following comments to posts.

Not a fan of facebook. I had the privacy thing down a while ago, but it doesn't seem to matter since I can't stay on top of it anymore. And, no one posts anything interesting because they don't want it to come back and bite them in the ass.

Question: Isn't Krysztof Nemeth the pin-up tattoo dude? I didn't know he was also a musician (if he actually is). I seem to remember seeing a mermaid of his on somebody one of those crazy nights.... The name does stick.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
He's a pinup artist, yes. I'm sure his work has inspired tattoos, but that's not his main focus.

Interesting... You just never know how or why people will know you in our time, do you?

[identity profile] orrin.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I ask myself the same question that Facebook guy asked all the time.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't have thought of you as a connoisseur of the lesbian bar scene...

[identity profile] orrin.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a complex guy.

(Also, nice dodge.)
