Thursday's child doesn't have as far to go as she'd like
Holy crap. The sun just came out. Like, literally just now. I am seeing the sun for the first time since, um...Saturday? Wow. WOW! Okay, today is definitely the day I'll be running all the errands I intended to do earlier in my vacation week but couldn't bring myself to do in the rain.
In an email to
msmitti this morning, I mentioned how I was having end-of-vacation freakout time. For those of you who don't share this malady, this is a sensation of anxiety, depression, and anger caused by the knowledge that there is more vacation time behind you than ahead of you. There's a little bit of resentment thrown in there, too. At least for me. I do not want to go back to work.
Last night I staffed the CSSF/AboutSF table at Super Nerd Night, which is not to be confused with Nerd Nite at Pachamama's. They are very different animals. It was great to finally hear our neighbor's band, The Shebangs play a set instead of just hearing them play in the basement of their house across the street. And the other band that played, Not A Planet, wasn't bad, either. The Foxy by Proxy burlesque girls bailed on their performance for some reason (although they were there, which made no sense to me), but there was a "bellydancer" whom I could stand to watch for about fifteen seconds--at which point she leaned forward and shook her tits at the crowd and I had to leave the bar before I threw up in my mouth. But anyway, my point here was that it was a bad decision to have me staff an info table at a bar. What was I thinking? I couldn't hear people's questions, my throat got sore from trying to yell, I got impatient, then I got tired, and it was just not a terribly pleasant experience.
My hair looked awesome, though. Gotta say one thing about all this rain, it brings out the curl in my hair like fucking whoa. Our neighbor snapped a pic of me with her phone, in which you can sorta see some of the curl. She took the picture to send to the guy who helps organize the previously-mentioned Nerd Nites at Pachamama's because apparently he's looking for more presenters and I said I'd be willing to do something sometime.
The topic I suggested for myself? Like I need to tell you. I guess Neighbor thought it would help boost enthusiasm for the topic if the organizer saw the person suggesting doing a presentation on gay porn fiction of (mostly) fictional characters. Which does sound kinda weird, put like that. I need to do some research besides just reading stories and also go to the Nerd Nites so I can get a feel for how these things go. According to their website, the next one is April 10. I'd like to attend at least two events before presenting, which means a June presentation at the earliest. I'd rather shoot for July, though, since Sherlock63 is going to keep me busy through the end of May. But anyway. Slashfic presentation. To a group of nerds. In a college town.
I really gotta do some work to make this look good. Also, I think I have officially given myself over to fandom with this decision. I need to find out how to involve myself in fandom as someone who is, yes, attached to a certain few fandoms, but is also drawn to the idea of fandom itself, as a subculture.
Because I needed another hobby.
Speaking of new hobbies, my lower body is more sore today than yesterday. Lunges are silent killers, I tell ya.

I am not really of the fandoms at all, but I *adore* her writing and find that her recs will often stretch my brain in useful ways.
What an adventure!

Yes, that vacation rollercoaster, I know what you mean.
And if you don't have time to spend, I'm okay with that.
For now. ;)
This new thing sounds perfect for you.
Rain hair. OH ME TOO! I need to scoop out the rain barrel while it's still fresh and save some in a spray. I'm loving it.

I sometimes have end-of-life freakout time, caused by the knowledge that there is more life behind me than in front of me. I SO do not want to go back into the earth. or up to heaven and play with the angels. or _____________. add your own post-life belief system.
ah.

Another person on my f-list (http://sabrina-il.livejournal.com) recently jumped on the hockey RPS slashfic train. You might check her out. She's pretty interesting.
