Cream centered

Okay, this is disgusting (SFW, but disgusting). Don't get me wrong, I used to love Cadbury Cream Eggs (before they changed the recipe). But the idea of drinking two of them in a can of pop? Ew.

My first one-on-one drumming lesson is tonight. I'm hoping my friend can help me out with some basic technique stuff. The one thing I took away from last month's drum workshop in KC is that I am sorely lacking in actual playing technique and if I want to get good at this, I need to learn some technique before I start trying the fancy stuff.

I'm on something of a contaminant-purge, and so have stopped taking all supplements that contain suspicious ingredients (fructose and tapioca starch in Emergen-C, for example). This means I'm no longer taking ibuprofen, either, since all the brands I've found use corn starch as a base. Guess what time of the month it is now? This is my second cycle sans-analgesics, and folks, it is not getting easier. Ugh and ouch.

Liberty Hall had Singin' in the Rain in stock (although the copy has some damage). It was great to watch it with [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick for his first viewing of it. So charming to experience that with someone who hasn't ever seen it, or many old musicals at all. I'm frequently amazed at how very different were our childhoods. The only thing we shared in common is that we were both human children--and there are times (most times, really) when I question even that.

New due South icon, btw. <3

Have you seen the Cadbury Deviled Eggs (http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2011/03/cakespy-cadbury-creme-deviled-eggs-easter.html) yet?

Can you take the gel ibuprofens, or are you just off them altogether?

we were both human children--and there are times (most times, really) when I question even that.

Hilarious!.. only because I think the same thing about Jbird and I.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG those deviled eggs are a riot!

The capsules and gelcaps both have cornstarch and sodium lauryl sulfate. =(

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)

They made a deviled Cadbury Cream Egg sammich too, with pound cake slices for "bread". Clever, but euww, da sweet.

Damn.. I've been looking up various meds and getting pretty depressed about the additives as well. King Pharmacy may be getting more of my business.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That's awesome. I hate the things, but the recipes are brilliant.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)

I use Cadbury's Caramel bars to make chocolate vodka in the dishwasher, but you have to have it for a party and use it all up pretty quickly.

[identity profile] renniemom.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You Do WHAT? 'splain, please.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Take a bottle of vodka, add caramel chocolate bars and cap it. Stick it in a full cycle of the dishwasher and voila! Chocolodka.

Here's (http://1heckofaguy.com/2006/04/18/chocolodka/) where I got the general idea/recipe.

I use Skyy vodka, (mainly because I have evil plans to make something with all those blue bottles) and I've had supremely good results with Newman's Own Caramel Dark Chocolate Cups (http://www.newmansownorganics.com/food_peanut.html#), broken up into bits that fit into the neck of the bottle.

If you chill it before serving, you'll need to shake it up quite a bit, so I just leave it out.

[identity profile] anomali.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
This sounds like something I should totally do for my birthday this summer. I am copying this into my Booze recipe file: )

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
^^ see above.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
But the idea of drinking two of them in a can of pop?

I think the comic was saying that drinking soda is the equivalent to drinking two Cadbury Eggs rather than drinking Cadbury Eggs *in* soda.

Either is disgusting, but I've always disliked Cadbury Eggs, so it is an effective discouragement tool.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the comic was saying that drinking soda is the equivalent to drinking two Cadbury Eggs rather than drinking Cadbury Eggs *in* soda.

Oh, I agree! And doing either makes my toes curl in a not-a-good way.

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm.
Can you take plain aspirin?
Probably run into the same problem, though; binder of cornstarch....

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, as far as I can tell, most pills and such use starchy binders.

Wine, though? Wine has no binders. If only I could drink at work...

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
If only it didn't have all those pesky side-effects to the anesthetic!

(I need that icon from Two Lumps, where the cat is drunk)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] tama_grey has a version of it. You might ask her if she minds you yoinking it.

[identity profile] renniemom.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] pastmagic and I are on different sides of those same topics. I've never seen Singin in the Rain, or any of the old classics. I don't like movies I have to read and he does. Sometimes I think I'd like to experience some of them but I never have made a point to do it.

So what did [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick think?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like movies I have to read

I don't understand what you mean, there. Do you mean...subtitles?

[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick loved it! Every time we watch one of the old classics he mourns the fact that he hasn't seen more of them.

[identity profile] renniemom.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, subtitles. [livejournal.com profile] pastmagic is a fan of black and white and subtitles, or a combination. Me? Not so much.

Okay, okay--I'll go find Singin in the Rain and see what I've missed. I've also never seen It's a Wonderful Life...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
There are about a bazillion classic movies out there that aren't subtitled.

If you don't like musicals, though, maybe best not to start with one. Musicals require a certain something in your brain that doesn't go *record screech* every time people start singing and dancing for no reason.

For a non-musical classic, try something like Charade or The African Queen. Both of those are in color, too.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Or Breakfast at Tiffany's & Roman Holiday.... sigh.

[identity profile] cmt2779.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo, Charade! Um, that's all. I just really love that movie. :-)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Me, too.

Charade and Indiscreet are my two favorite Cary Grant movies.

[identity profile] cmt2779.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen Indiscreet and I have no idea why I haven't seen it, because I love both Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Adding it to my list of movies right now.

North by Northwest is one of my favorite Cary Grant movies, too.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I LOVED it! I'm still singing the songs today ;-)

[identity profile] anomali.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
My Mom was a major movie fan girl back in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. She may have lost her amazing autograph collection to a fire, but she passed on her love of classic movies to me.

TCM is the default channel in our home: )

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It pleases me to hear that TCM is still around!

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now I can eat Cadbury Cream Eggs all the time and feel no worse than drinking soda!" - win!

Re: our discussion beforehand, that you stayed with a family when your parents weren't home and I babsat my brother starting in my single-digit age: I hadn't ever thought of that as an unusual thing. Heck, I used to change his diaper, and I'm only six years older. The more I examine it, the more my childhood really was sorta freakish, I guess. At least I was raised by humans ;-)

LOVED the movie!

Also, your icon makes me LOL!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
At least I was raised by humans

That is debatable.

Your childhood was freakishly abnormal, and mine was freakishly normal. My childhood was a Mr. Rogers Textbook Childhood while yours was something more like A Very Special Episode of After-School Programming.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I should have said, "At least I was a human baby." ;-D

I think my childhood would make a GREAT after-school special.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly would be educational.

[identity profile] poincaraux.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait a minute. Through great tragedy, I missed Cadbury Creme Egg season last year. What do you mean they changed the recipe?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't remember exactly when it happened, but I'm pretty sure it's been more than five years. The insides used to be really runny, and now they're more like a thick paste. Bleh.

[identity profile] poincaraux.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean that was on purpose? I assumed I was just getting old, dried out eggs. That's terrible!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-28 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the same thing at first. Yes, indeed, a tragedy. I have no idea why people buy them anymore. They're just wretched, IMO.

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
But.. the Cadbury eggs I got this week were 'right' - the consistency was fine. I don't get it...

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you got some of the ones that are produced for the non-US market?

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Partner says he bought them from Walgreens. o.O

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Erm. Hm. I don't know. So does this one, when you open it, actually run like an egg? Or is it sorta like frosting? Because the old ones were actually runny. Enough that they were tricky to eat.

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It did, just like the ones I'd have back home. I wonder if it's because it was warm outside though? Although the chocolate wasn't melted, it was room temp. IDK. I *have* come across ones where the fondant was like, almost solid, and that pissed me off.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you just got lucky.

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Heehee... 'got lucky'.

ahem

ONE TRACK MIND

it's all Paul's fault

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pleased you picked up on the innuendo, despite jumping comment threads.

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm ADD, this is how I function. :P

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
*cracks up* That outtakes video is DA BOMB.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I love hearing him say fucking dachshunds!

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hearing him swear up a storm is the FUNNIEST THING EVER to me, I don't even know why.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-03-29 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's hearing the words come out of someone dressed in that uniform, I think. With that hair. And the face.

DAT FACE.
