Oh, snap

No Child Left Behind is working really well, you guys.

Yesterday I planned to make Great Progress on the Watson coat mock-up. I wound up making only Mediocre Progress thanks to my 1. Failure to trace (and cut) a pattern piece, 2. Failure to notice I was missing said pattern piece before stitching pieces together 3. Half an hour spent ripping out a serged seam, and then 4. Breaking a needle on the serger.

/o\

The needle breakage brought everything to a halt. Because I can't find/don't have the correct screwdriver to change out the needle on the serger, I have to take it over to Lawrence Sewing & Vac today after work. It's unlikely that they'll have time to switch it out for me right then and there, so I'm looking at a 48 hour delay. I'm also out of pocket this Saturday since I'm going to be at the women's healthcare march/rally in Topeka all day.

So frustrating. Yet so typical.

Oh! I put up a new Tumblr collection (finally!): Beautiful Places, April 23.

NCLB makes me all sorts of ragey. I hate that poorly conceptualized and even more poorly executed policy with the fire of a thousand suns.

*rage*rage*rage*

What size/sort of screwdriver do you need? We have a ton of small drivers. Annoying that.

Beautiful places made my morning. I'm sticking one up for my background today.

I need a very small Phillips-head (unsure of the actual size) that's about an inch long including the handle. We've got tons of screwdrivers, but none are short enough.

Yay! Glad you liked the pictures.

Like this? (http://tinyurl.com/72qfyqd)

They might have one in stock at Hancocks.
I've e'd Jbird to see if he has one as well.

Oooh! Maybe!

Of course, the serger could stand a tune-up anyway, so I'm wondering if I should just take the opportunity to get it overhauled, while I've got it half dismantled already.

.. depending on how long it'll take, what with Prom season upon us.

Since this will inevitably happen again, getting a screwdriver seems to be the way to go.

I'm going to go with Karen in Wichita and assume that it is a pun and FACS means "Family and Consumer Science" considering what is in the display case. I noticed looking at a faculty list of a school recently that they now call HomeEc FACS as well.

NCLB, though, is one of the reasons I have opted out of the public education system for as long as I can afford to do so.

Is it ridiculous how much better that makes me feel?
