Quiet, calm, peaceful... isn't it hateful?

I wish people on Tumblr would stop reblogging this image from Community. It's starting to have an impact on my work productivity. Between that and images of Jeff Winger looking like this, I think Season 3 is going to be a winner in my book, regardless of the quality of the writing.

Monday I spent about an hour sitting on a lacrosse ball at my desk at work. Half an hour on each side, moving the ball around from high under my hip (but low enough that my weight was still on it), across my glutes, and down my hamstring to right under my knee. I zig-zagged across the muscles to make sure every point got attention, and shifted around a little bit in each spot, but mostly just tried to relax down on it and let those muscles loosen up.

Tuesday morning I had no pain in my left hip--which has been troubling me since June 2011. By the end of the day I had a little bit of discomfort, but no numbness and no overwhelming stiffness or immobility.

I love me some lacrosse balls. Lacrosse balls as a tool for loosening up muscle fibers = another CrossFit lesson.

And speaking of CrossFit (of course), last night I did a teddy bear handstand against the wall (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] bluetourmaline, for that phrase and the picture). I not only did it, I did it for a count of sixty! I felt stable the whole time, and was even talking and laughing. The moment I started to shift my legs to try to get them up in the air, though, I started to wobble. So that'll have to wait for another day. But I'm not complaining or minimizing the accomplishment! This time last week I couldn't even stay up there for a count of two.

I AM A ROCK STAR.

Tonight is the final fitting of Watson. I attached one sleeve and I want to see how it fits before I sew on the other. I attached the left arm, since it has just the one patch. If I need to make sleeve adjustments, I do not want to remove two patches. Ugh. After that, it's just buttons and buttonholes. Work on Sherlock begins this weekend. Still on schedule! \m/ >_< \m/

Teddy bear handstand? That's too cute. I need to add handstand to my bucket list!

And are you on tumblr? What are you over there? I just set up an account and need to start stalking people.

I'm Clever Manka (http://clevermanka.tumblr.com/)!

Mostly it's themed reblogs with the occasional random post that I find especially important/moving/timely and doesn't fit into a theme.

All goodstuff this.

Your query to me about the lacrosse balls the other day reminded me that I used to lay on two tennis balls in a sock to roll my upper back.
Thank you!
I wonder if I still have them? I'd be more inclined to try them since they're softer.

I asked about tennis balls (because they were easier to find--everybody stocks tennis balls) and was told they weren't as effective on the larger muscles because they weren't dense enough to break up the muscle fibers. Probably works great on one's neck, but not so much on glutes or hamstrings.

That makes sense.
I'm tickled for you that it's working on that pain issue!

This reminds me of the dowels I use for my plantar fascitis; stepping on them hurts like hell but it is honestly the ONLY reason I am mobile at the moment.

You are most likely already familiar with the Sherlockology website (http://www.sherlockology.com/wardrobe/coat-sherlock-holmes), but if not, there it is.

Yep!

I found this one (http://www.benedictcumberbatch.co.uk/Sherlock/photos.html) more helpful for close-up shots, though.

Kick Ass.

I'm glad the lacrosse balls are working for you. Foam rollers do the trick for my super-tight left IT band, but the balls work wonders on my back for getting into those hard-to-reach areas. And bitchin' on the teddy bear stand! You'll be doing handstand pushups eventually, I'm sure. :)

You know it! RAWR!

For my 45th birthday present, I'd like to kick Michael Fassbender's ass.

Hahahaha! I'm sure this is not a unique fantasy.
