Little miss crabby

Pretty much, yeah. I need some time away from the office. Two and a half more workdays until Vacation Time. Friday afternoon cannot come soon enough. It doesn't help that I'm alone in the office this afternoon, so can't escape my desk for occasional jaunts around the building.

I am keeping up with doing push-ups several times a day, though. For my first set this morning, I tried for a new record of uninterrupted push-ups and I got one. Fifteen, baby. Fifteen military style push-ups in a row.

Here is the giant animated gif that we've all been waiting for. And by "we" I mean "I." I've wanted this since the movie came out in 2008.

RDJ Hammer

Unf.

UPDATE: I decided to put on some good tunes to boost my mood for the next three hours.

Now I feel like dancin'!

I want to learn how to dance this style of swing. It goes by a few different names, but in the U.S. rockabilly world, it's most commonly referred to as jive. I don't know anyone who teaches it locally.

Holy crap this kid is amazing.

A tiny part of why this couple looks so good is that their hands are always held level at their waists when they're not in contact. There are no flapping arms, no frantic hand-grasping. The lead, even when he breaks contact, knows exactly where the follow's hand will be when he wants to pull her back. This is crucial to looking good with this. You might not be the flashiest couple on the floor, but if the lead knows where the follow (and the follow's hands) are at all times, it makes them look smooth and competent, which is half the battle when it comes to partner dancing.

Now I really wanna go out dancing. *sigh*

that looks like so much fun! that would definitely put one in a good mood at work too :)

I would listen to my rockabilly stuff more, but sometimes it gets me kinda down. I don't have someone to dance with at home anymore, and that music just cries out to be danced to. Ah well, can't have it all!

Oh that was fun to watch! Bonus, this work assignment has a computer that plays videos with sound! Woot. I can enjoy your posts a lot more. :D

Yay!

Extra bonus: Tomorrow's Tumblr post is all Due South--Fraser and RayK style. WITH SOME VIDS!

Well now, that's good news. >:D

RDJ was pretty much born to be Tony Stark. <3

about the dancers...

[identity profile] femfataleatron.livejournal.com 2012-07-26 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I must also say that their shoulders do not dip (something lots of "swing" dancers do like crazy) and their knees stay bent. Shoulder dipping is actually pretty bad form in general, but the bent knees and elbows gives it that smooth look. You can pause this video anywhere and this guys knees wil be bent and shoulders parallel to the floor. The girls knees are not always perfect but her top line is super consistent.

Yes yes yes and more yes.

That's one of the things I like about jive (as opposed to regular swing). It's similar to bellydance in that its movements are tight and isolated. It looks fluid and organic, but a good dancer is balanced and controlled.

A-yep.

Ooo, nice gif. I'm awake now. Thanks :).

And BR-549 is in Nashville this weekend! After that Chuck is touring with his new group; the Grassy Knoll Boys. Somewhere down the line I think they are opening for Loretta Lynn :).

That's awesome! The New Year's Eve BR shows at Liberty Hall were amazing.

BR549 is SO FUN. You might also enjoy (if you haven't heard them already) Old Crow Medicine Show, a honkytonk bluegrassy dirty country rockabilly band.

I checked out a couple different songs on YouTube, and they're a little too acousticy-bluegrass for me. I need a little more rocka in my -billy. Thank you for the suggestion, though!

I miss dancing, too, and I concur with you on the form of swing dance. I hate seeing flashy flailing and yanking the girl around. Most who do that think that they are Oh. So. Good. and haven't a clue that they are self-absorbed showboaters of the (usually) limited floorspace.

Not that thinking about dancing makes me feel a bit bitter, or anything.
