Partially perforated--tear at your own risk

Soooo...heads up, local sewing-types: Hancock Fabrics in Lawrence no longer sells dupioni silk. Or, as far as I can tell, any silk at all. BOO HISS. I needed silk for both projects I'm working on. Of course. I found some beige silk shot with silver thread for the dance costume that I'm going to dye for the dance costume, but the pirate coat is going to require an online order. ARGH.

The water for the dye is boiling right now. Wish me luck.

I'm trying to decide whether Romney's announcement of a running mate is a BOO HISS or a FUCK YEAH. On one hand, the idea of Paul Ryan as VP is terrifying, but on the other, I think this is going to lose the GOP a lot of votes.

From a comment on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political, here is some of Ryan's credentials:
Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record.
Voted NO on regulating the subprime mortgage industry
Voted NO on revitalizing severely distressed public housing
Voted NO on modifying bankruptcy rules to avoid mortgage foreclosures
Voted YES on banning gay adoptions in DC
Voted YES on Constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one-woman
Voted NO on enforcing against anti-gay hate crimes
Voted NO on enforcing limits on CO2 global warming pollution
Voted YES on speeding up approval of forest thinning projects
Voted NO on four weeks of paid parental leave for federal employees
Voted NO on supporting democratic institutions in Pakistan
Rated -3 by AAI, indicating a anti-Arab anti-Palestine voting record
Voted NO on campaign finance reform banning soft-money contributions
Voted YES on prohibiting suing gunmakers & sellers for gun misuse
Replace Medicare with $9500/year private insurance payment
Voted NO on expanding the Children's Health Insurance Program
Voted NO on adding 2 to 4 million children to SCHIP eligibility
Voted YES on denying non-emergency treatment for lack of Medicare co-pay

Nice, huh?

Cheer yourself up by watching this video.

I agree, terrifying. I hope it's true the GOP will lose votes this way.

O, how I look forward to November 10! I can't wait to become one of the "local sewing types." My Grammie's residual energy will be proud.

Well I know at least one person this nomination has lost: the father of a friend of mine who says the man has NEVER EVER voted Democrat in his LIFE.

Definitely a BOO HISS. I know enough Repugs that weren't going to vote at all because they weren't so keen on Romney... who are now going to vote for Romney because they view Ryan as having "levity." Whatever the fuck THAT word means any more.

See, I think that having a psycho like this on the ticket HELPS us. Because even conservative voters like my sister will never go for this level of WTF.

I loved that vid!!

I'm not sure Hancocks is much into selling actual fabric of any sort. They seem to have rearranged their store to be all hobby glue glitter on cardboard box kits and crap and not actual sewing stuff.

seems like fabric stores never sell fabric anymore. boo.

Not only that, he wants to BAN certain kinds of birth control. I haven't looked for source on it, since.. well, it's a snowball's chance in a Kansas summer that I'll vote on that side anyway. But srsly..
