Hive queen

Guess who is allergic to her new costume that she wore on opening day? THIS GIRL RIGHT HERE. Aw yeah. You know it, baby.

Either the metallic thread or the dye or the fabric itself caused giant itchy red hives on my back where the straps cross and across my low belly where the ties rubbed on my skin. Now I get to remake that costume with different ties. So that's awesome.

My throat feels a lot better, but I'm still coughing up stuff.

As you might imagine, dancing at Monday's Smoker was a little rough.

I am ready to sign up for my robot body now, please.

OH FANDOM. Related: Thranduil is being played by Lee Pace, someone I've wanted to see more of since The Fall. I'm pleased.

Holy crap, this move actually works? I thought it was just something they made up to make Natasha Romanoff look badass.

WITL photos from Sunday and Monday will go up as soon as I'm caught up on work stuff.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear that the costume hurt you. I noticed the redness and thought you'd maybe gone for a moxibustion treatment or something. In the eyes of a relatively uninformed observer, your discomfort did not seem to affect your performance. I hope the next few days are gentle for you.

Oh, good! I'm very glad to hear that.

I am so fascinated by the martial arts gif that I keep watching it on a loop. It's just so fast and amazing! That guy had no idea what hit him!

Isn't that incredible! Physics in action!

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too!

I know, WOW! Those kinds of showy but scary moves are so rare, because you have to do it JUST RIGHT or end up getting yourself in trouble. She is AMAZING.

Key concept in a lot of martial arts: "Where the head goes, the body follows." Wrap yourself around someone's neck, spin, and they sure as heck are going to go down!

While I think you could actually hurt someone very badly with that move, I think he's helping out an awful lot. You can see he pushes off with his legs to help the throw....

Of course, if you did manage to get a grip on an opponent that way, and they DIDN'T follow you over, you would most probably break their neck....

Yeah, where is the line between helping with the move and moving with it to avoid further damage?

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of martial arts moves work with that principle..."steering" an opponent to some disadvantage. How he gets to the ground isn't quite so important as the fact that he does, because it's awfully hard to recover the initiative from there. Especially if one is smaller than one's "attacker," zeroing out the size factor is critical.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno... looks more like he's trying to avoid getting his head removed....

We rented "War Horse" over the weekend. It was startling to see both Cumberbatch and Hiddleston in different characters!

OW OW OW. Those hives look horribly uncomfortable.
What a bummer.

Yah, that move? I find it fascinating as well.

Oops, forgot to start WITL.. so I'll get on that tonight, and be one day behind. :)

Ugh, sorry about the allergicness. SUCK. :/

*is mesmerised by gif*

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it makes me want to watch that movie again.

[identity profile] hdsqrl.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, ouch! Echoing another's comment - no one would have guessed you were uncomfortable based on your performance yesterday. While the rest of us were barely-functioning puddles of sweat, you appeared to be glowing and somehow skating above whatever horrible level of humidity that the rest of us were buried under.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! That's really really wonderful to know. I'm glad to hear I didn't perform like I felt.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconded! Sure, we could tell you were hot - who wasn't? - but you appeared to be unaffected by the heat, just as radiant and captivating as ever!

This!

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The still coughing stuff up makes me hopeful that your lungs are just going "GERMS WTF GTFO". But hives are LAME.

I lost hearing in my left ear about two hours ago and my face hurts when I lean over, so I'm thinking I'm headed toward a sinus infection. BACK TO THE DOCTOR TOMORROW.

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow. That sounds like so much fun. :/

There is no place I would rather spend a morning than the waiting room at FirstMed. It's my favorite.
