I AM _ _ _ _ LOCKED

I'll just leave this here:

In other news, I read this on a health blog: The moons of the nails (also called lunalae) can be indicative of oxygen levels over time of the blood. They take up approximately 1/4 of the nail, except on the pinkie finger, which does not have one. Absence or reduction of the moons indicates vascular or lymph blockage. Smaller luna may also indicate decreased hormonal status and reduced lung activity. Oversized luna show blood pressure and other cardiovascular tendencies. The presence of luna on the pinkie finger suggests overworked heart or high blood pressure and shoot-like spurt growing from the border of the luna suggest a thyroid imbalance. I'm going to take a good look at my nailbeds next time I remove my nail polish. I don't think I have "shoot-like spurts," but I also think I don't have much luna at all, on any of my fingers. Do other people's lunas really take up a quarter of their nailbed? Or is this an exaggeration?

I have 56 Tom Hiddleston GIFs. For a long time I had anyone Avengers-related in the same folder, but it was getting a little cumbersome. Hiddleston has his own folder now. With fifty-six items in it. My life.

My Watson, [livejournal.com profile] msmitti, will be heading over to my office around 11:00 to walk around Wescoe with me. But if anyone on who reads my LJ is on campus (I don't think anyone is, but just in case...) who wants to swing by, I'm here in my costume!

I only have moons on my thumb nails. Of course, I have thyroid problems and have been struggling with recovering from bronchitis since the start of September. I'm not sure what my nails look like at other times. I never noticed.

Still, love that coat.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for weighing in on the nail thing. I'm interested to hear what/if other people report.

And thank you! I'm pretty fucking proud of it, I have to say. Although honestly, Watson's coat is so much better.

[identity profile] msmitti.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
that face felt more Watson-y when I did it.

I have only ever had moons on my thumbnails. I remember a beauty magazine in high school did a supposedly 1940's manicure leaving the moons bare and polishing the rest of the nail bright red. That is when I noticed I don't have them.

[identity profile] msmitti.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
and I forgot to mention the awesomeness of those hardcore gangnam stylers.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that face!

Yep, that style of manicure was very popular. I think it looks creepy and fantastic.

Aren't they just? I love them!

I barely have slivers at the bottom of any of my fingers:

http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/etcet/562316/7368/7368_600.jpg

... almost none at all on my ring fingers, trending downward going distal from "maybe an eighth" on my thumb... maybe the source meant "a quarter of an inch" and fucked up?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You have nice hands.

A quarter of an inch would be more than a quarter of my nailbed, so....

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
My nail moons barely show, unless I've actually remembered to push back my cuticles. But oddly enough, I DO have a moon on one of my pinkies, the right one. But I don't have high BP (or at least, I haven't for over 5 years, due to taking a beta-blocker for a completely different reason), although I do have a lot of flags for heart problems (borderline BP without the beta-blocker, high cholesterol, family history).

If you've ever had an injury to a finger that caused you to lose a nail, you will have an oddly shaped moon from it. I smashed my left thumb in a door when I was in my teens, and it still has a notch in it, and is lopsided.

I am NOT AT ALL surprised at the number of your Hiddleston gifs!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm starting to think that information about the fingernails is a bunch of BS.

I am NOT AT ALL surprised at the number of your Hiddleston gifs!

Me, neither.

oh, uh, hey, you're right. my logic trying to give them the benefit of the doubt totally breaks down in fail.

the back of my hand looks better than the front, with all the callouses and torn-off callouses, even though my lifting has been slack-ass for two months. but thank you; i just am accustomed to thinking of them as "hands" without any kind of aesthetic merit.

Y'know-I see nothing on him in association with anyone, male or female; he either isn't dating, or else he is extremely quiet about it.

Or else I just don't know where to look-which is probably the actual truth!

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
My nail moons are about a quarter of my nails, and I occasionally get those shoots.

LOVE THAT REPORTER-BOMB!

Another not surprised by your collection.

[identity profile] anomali.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I have moons on my thumbs as well as my ring and index fingers. None are a quarter of the length of the nailbed. I think the presence and size of moons is pretty much just genetic, but changes to them can indicate thyroid issues (smaller:hypo/larger:hyper).

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
He and Kat Dennings had a short thing a while back. Which...those two, together (http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Tom+Hiddleston/Kat+Dennings)? UNF.

My nail moons are about a quarter of my nails, and I occasionally get those shoots.

INTERESTING. Maybe there is something to that weird thyroid bloodwork you got. Next time you notice one of the shoots, you should think about how your energy levels have been over the past couple weeks.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well! Lucky me, I can check my parent's fingernails this weekend!

[identity profile] carmy-w.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooh, you are entirely correct - UNF!

[identity profile] djangodurango.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine do not take up a 4th of my nail and I have one on one of my pinkies.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for chiming in! Hearing how few people have the supposedly normal nailbed luna makes me feel less concerned about mine.

[identity profile] anomali.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I give my Mom manis, I know her nails quite well and, yes, my moons are similar, but not quite the same. I wish I had her superstrong nails, but, sadly, I have these bendy numbers that always seems to be getting something sharp wedged under them. My Dad's were more pronounced.

Safe travels to you!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want to develop stronger nails, use Nailtiques Formula 2 for a year. Paint them every day (forgoing color polish), wipe the polish off every five days, and start over. This stuff is amazing and after a year of faithful and regular use, you'll have good, strong nails.

You can buy it here in town at Walgreen's.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I also have moons on my pinkies, by the way.

Hm.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-10-31 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm starting to think this little tidbit of "health information" is bunk.

Either that, or most everyone who comments on my LJ is sick in more than just the head.
