Turn and face the strange

I am a creature of habit, and I don't particularly care for change. Well, some change. Interestingly, Big Change doesn't affect me as much as it does most people (moving, job loss, dietary overhauls). But Small Change really irritates me. For example, I clicked on the "post an entry" link to write this just now, and it put me in the new LJ entry layout and I was all WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS OH HELL NO and my heart rate started to go up before I saw the "use old format" option and then everything was okay. Until, you know, the old format isn't available anymore and then it'll take me months to feel comfortable with the new format.

Small change, y'all. I'm not good at it.

Crap. I just found a hole in the sleeve on the long-sleeved tee shirt I'm wearing. I don't have many of these left (purchased them years ago at a JC Penny's winter clearance sale), and it's sad-making. They're a beautiful rayon blend that lets another shirt slide over it without pulling or catching, so they're perfect for layering. They also have a boat neck and 3/4 sleeves, so they don't show underneath an oxford shirt at all. DANG. I don't keep clothes that are wearing out. All my clothes, even my under-layers, must be in good enough shape that if I neglected to wear something over them, I wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen in them.

[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick is at the opposite end of the spectrum with this (of course), and I occasionally badger him to get rid of a shirt because the cuffs are frayed, the neck band is grimy, or there is an ink stain on the collar (ahem), etc. Even if it's not a particularly favorite item of clothing, he's not keen to throw it in the rag bin.

Most people probably fall somewhere in the middle of this. They'll throw out a damaged item if it's not a favorite garment, but will hold onto a treasured one even if there's a hole in it. But maybe I'm wrong, and people are more either/or than I think. In which camp do you find yourself?

Speaking of me and [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick, I found this photo of us yesterday that perfectly illustrates our general relationship. I love it so much. I need to contact the photographer to ask him for a high-resolution copy of this so I can print it and frame it. Seriously, this is one of the most accurate photos of us, ever.

[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's like "SQUIRREL!" and I'm all "SRSLY?"

LOVE. IT.

Today is Getting Many Things Done Day. Errands and cleaning and then shopping with a friend and then WINE. I'm actually looking forward to cleaning the house. It's kind of a nightmare right now.

I am terrible at learning things from books (or screens, or any flat surface). I'm one of those people who has to have someone (sometimes literally) hold my hand when I'm learning a skill. *sigh*
