Yeah, every great now and then some fashion writer will complain that us folks in the PNW (Pacific northwest) wear too much technical/outdoorsy clothing. And I laugh and laugh because um....that's 'cause it rains here. For months. I tend to wear my wool coat most days but I do have one of those ugly rain jackets specifically for cycling, and if it's really coming down or windy or my ride is going to be longer, I'll wear it. (And hate it, but you gotta do what you gotta do...)
It generally isn't a hard rain--more like a constant pissing drizzle for days and days, interspersed with cloudy days where everything still feels damp. But we get our share of drenching downpours (especially in the spring) and sometimes we get freezing cold sunny days in the winter with a cuttingly harsh wind from the east.
It got sunny and very cold before the sun set. It was wonderful while it lasted, though, and it stopped raining before I went out in the afternoon. Perfect!
The weather said it snowed there yesterday-was it all atmospheric, or what?
We had a wonderful rainstorm in the middle of the night, with lots of lightning and wind (oddly, the wind blew like mad all day, went dead calm for about a half hour, then started up from the other direction when the front line finally hit us at about 11:00 or so).

Although I don't lie out in it, I love me my sun and dry. I'd like to retire to the Southwest.
