It's a video-sharing sort of day

OF COURSE, now that the collage is dry, I discover that I'm out of canvases, and [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick is due home from the airport anytime now, so I don't want to run to Michael's to pick one up--hurray for them being half off right now, though.

But anyway, I'm just dicking around on the internet until he gets home. No point in starting a new project. So here's another dance video.

Do you ever use clear gesso to get some tooth and kind of a frosty look on collages? I am experimenting with that right now, so I can layer colored pencil (both water-soluble and regular) over the collage stuff. I guess what I am doing with a lot of this is palimpsest-ish. Sort of. Eh.

I'm going to try layering clear gesso and self-leveling gel until I get a sort of 3D effect with the text.

I haven't tried that, no! Is the clear gesso very expensive? Do they carry it at Michael's? I would love to add more dimension and texture to my collages.

I believe I have seen it at Michael's. I got mine at the Jayhawk Bookstore, but that was about a hundred years ago. These days, I buy my art supplies online, from Jerry's Artarama (http://www.jerrysartarama.com/) a lot of the time, since their prices are often significantly lower than Michael's, but if I am in a hurry, I go to Michael's. I still go to Jayhawk Bookstore sometimes. I got a big tube of titanium white acrylic there for about $7 on sale.

The gesso that I have had for ages is Windsor & Newton, but I just ordered a bottle of Liquitex, to try it out. It's really not too expensive (http://search.jerrysartarama.com/search?keywords=clear+gesso), and it really seems to go a long way.

We should have a craft day sometime this year, srsly.

Cool. Thanks for the info! I would love to have an art day with you! My next several weekends are going to be devoted to the Chevelle, perhaps alas, but I'll let you know when I next have an art day planned.

Yay! I am looking forward to this! =)

I also want to try encaustic. Just to smell the beeswax.

That's very ambitious! I'd love to see what you do with it.

I've seen it the last time I was there, but they only had one large bottle, and so might be out at times.

How could they see where each other was on stage???!?!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2013-04-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Onstage isn't as blackout dark as it looks from the audience?

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2013-04-16 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Could be, but no less impressive. WOW!
