Heights

Today's colletion, Tuesday, May 7: Heights. So if you're scared of heights, don't hit my Tumblr today.

Speaking of fears, I'm putting together a post about phobias and what it's like to be someone with a phobia. Watch this space.

Yeah. Thanks for the warning.
That first one was enough for me. The balloon one too. *shudder*

The balloon one makes even me a bit uneasy, and I like heights.

That first one nearly got me dizzy sitting in my chair!
Love it, though! I love panorama and vista shots like those; I just can't stand to go very close to the edge!
I've done jobs that allowed me to get used to doing that sort of stuff enough that I got used to the feeling, but that familiarity goes away fast!

I knew a woman who painted houses for a living. She could do straight-knee toe touches, fast, while on the very top step of a ladder (you know, the one that says "This is not a step").

Dean would be able to do that. When he drove semi, he normally pulled a grain trailer. He would walk around the trailer on that 3 inch ledge. Slipped off one day, flipped a somersault and landed on his feet, the nimble little shit. Wish I had that spatial awareness!

I love the collection. I don't have a fear of heights, but I do have slight agoraphobia (the wide, open spaces part, not the outside part) that often manifests itself as a fear of heights - being up really high often means there's nothing else around me.

I also have brontophobia, which is so pathetic. But I *hate* thunderstorms.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2013-05-07 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oof. You wound up in a tough place to live for a fear of thunderstorms.

Happy you liked the collection!

Yeah, spring and early summer is definitely my least favorite time of year.

When we get a new house, I'm building a room in the basement with no windows and sound proofing out the wazoo.

Looking forward to the phobia post - my prevalent phobia is actually sort of rational - thanatophobia.

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2013-05-09 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Forgive me, I'm not certain why that's amusing?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2013-05-09 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't laughing at your fear, hon, I was laughing at the phrasing. Because it's TOTALLY rational! Saying thanatophobia is "sort of" rational is like saying someone is "sort of" pregnant. I apologize for not being clear. Not laughing at your fear at all.

Oh, okay! I was just confused there. XD

But yes, it's pparently something very common in folks with ADD, which I didn't know about until a few years ago. It's something I've dealt with for a long-ass time. :/

That was a really cool collection, though my chest started getting tight as it went on. The worst for me were those where people could fall to their death, like the first one, the tower-climber leaning back, the jumprope-on-a-crane woman (SERIOUSLY?), the guy standing on a support wire... actually, a lot of them. It's not really a phobia, in that I can look at those, but it's damned uncomfortable to do so.

Love the Duomo shots - what a gorgeous and other-worldly place!

Love the Duomo shots

I love it when I can sneak my own photos into a collection.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2013-05-08 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's Tumblr - that's not "sneaking," it's adding new material to what would otherwise be just recycled and ever-older material.

Great photos! Brings back a lot of pleasant memories... hey, you should create a big Tumblr collection of the Italy shots!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2013-05-08 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Good idea!

Edit: that was six years ago. We haven't taken a vacation together in six years.

THAT WAS TOTALLY ON MY MIND as I was looking through those photos during breakfast.

IT'S TIME.

That duty-free store was the ONLY thing good about Switzerland.
