I declare my own independence, thanks
I am absolutely not going to wish my fellow Americans a happy independence day because I am fucking nauseated by the state of this country's politics. The attacks on women, POC, and lower-income demographics are maddening and crushing. Yes, I am pleased about the (sort-of?) strike-down of DOMA, but it's not enough. Not nearly. Fuck celebrating This Great Nation. Just fuck that.
So instead, check out this amazing installation at a 2009 H.R. Giger exhibition in San Sebastian, Spain.

I WANT IT LIKE BURNING
Speaking of misogyny and inequalities, I reblogged this quote on Tumblr and am posting it here as well for TRUTH:
No, it makes me PHYSICALLY ANGRY, because the reboot Star Trek cast is flawless and their talent and chemistry and everything is wasted on bad scripts and sexism and how they are the least forwards science fiction ever. Gene wanted 50% female personnel on Star Trek and was refused and in the 21st fucking century where we could easily have 50%, it’s still so many fucking males. And neither do we get awesome race and gender discourse, not a single moment do we question the gender binary or really, any fucking binary there is, I AM SO MAD, Gene wanted to change the world and JJ has the perfect cast and so much money and he wastes it on lense flairs and Victoria Secret push-ups and casting get-me-all-the-crazy-fangirl-viewers-Cumberbatch for an iconic POC character, and I don’t even usually care that much about things like this, but Star Trek was a vision of the future, a better vision of humankind, and JJ and his shitty scriptwriters fucked it all up. I might be feeling a little angry today. Can you tell? Maybe it's time to go lift some heavy things.

And this, from your quote: Gene wanted to change the world and JJ has the perfect cast and so much money and he wastes it on lense flairs and Victoria Secret push-ups and casting get-me-all-the-crazy-fangirl-viewers-Cumberbatch for an iconic POC character, and I don’t even usually care that much about things like this, but Star Trek was a vision of the future, a better vision of humankind, and JJ and his shitty scriptwriters fucked it all up.
I feel much the same way about America right now. I love my country but ever since George W. made it clear that we will be a nation that not only tortures people, which was probably always true, but a nation that proudly, triumphantly, and openly claims a right to torture people, I just can't feel the same. There are, of course, many other things that are causing my slow burn, but that was sort of the tipping point. Or no, wait--that happened a long time ago when I was a little kid and happened upon a picture of a lynching. And I was like "Wait--this was AMERICA?? Here, where I live?"
Well, have fun with the heavy things. I'll stop talking now before I trigger some NSA protocol on your blog . . . .

A-men to Giger.
A-men to Star Trek.
I can't find a single thing to disagree with this post with. Shall I make some up?
