Dig through the ditches

KU is apparently the best college to work for. This makes me wonder Sweet Bleeding Jesus, how horrible is it at other places? Don't get me wrong, I like what I do and I feel valued at my job, but it is not thanks to the general atmosphere here. Which, frankly, sucks, thanks to current trends to make the university more like a business and the push for commercialization, consolidation, and profit profit profit.

In costuming news, I've found a couple tutorials on how to make a fake stitched scar that use things like tissue paper and Elmer's glue. I'm going to play around with that tonight. None of them are re-useable, but if it looks good, I'll just build it once for Dead Girl on Saturday and wear Pit Girl Friday and Sunday. That might be the best arrangement, anyway, since Dead Girl will probably be the more comfortable outfit since (frankly) there isn't a lot to her. Just a bra, tap pants, and a very loose-fitting dress. She's also got the more complicated makeup job in general (because it includes full body makeup), so just doing her once will be less time-consuming.

After yesterday's session with Andrew, I was feeling pretty good. I even mentioned how I wasn't sure if it was an easy day or if I was just getting used to this. Of course this morning? My glutes are killing me holy fucking shit. Serious, serious DOMS in my ass--the deeper, underlying muscles beneath the gluteus maximus. HELLO THAR, NEWLY FOUND MUSCLE FRIENDS.

During the session, Andrew had me roll out the outside of my hip--specifically the tensor fasciae latae--in our continuing quest to deepen my squat. In the video, the instructor uses a lacrosse ball. We used a rolling tool made from two PVC pipe caps duct-taped together. HARD. CORE. I have visible bruising on the sides of my hips, now, to match the bruises on my thighs from our Rumble Roller. One more thing to add to the mobility checklist! Three times a week I roll out my feet, ankles (inside and outside), calves, hamstrings, quads, IT bands, adductors, glutes, and now, tensor fasciae latae. I spend at least two minutes on each area. Yes, it takes a while. Yes, it's worth it.

The Rob Zombie show is a week away.

Got it. That's a nice division. The US has a horrible tendency to belittle trade schools. It's a shame.

So many people would benefit from a trade school, but it's rarely mentioned in high schools except to the kids already taking shop classes. God knows I'd have done much better in a trade school than I did at the university, but in the 80s there wasn't anybody suggesting such things to (gasp) girls.
