I'm thinking about participating in the Due South Seekrit Santa project this year.

The logistics of doing my weight training in the morning at Robinson were too daunting. So I'll just go there right after work and then walk home. We'll see how that works. I still got up early this morning and did yoga, though.

Today's Tumblr collection is Tuesday, September 20: Bats.

My LJ is boring today. LJ is getting even less populated, and that's not helping. Makes me sad.

We've found that they are roosting behind one of our window shutters on the front, so I guess a bat house can be very simple.

They're all wiggly ears and bright little eyes and happy little faces and scrinchy little claws and bitey little fangs and if I didn't have three cats, I would desperately want one for a pet. Maybe I will have to talk the Brit into building a bat house in our yard too.

LJ is getting even less populated, and that's not helping. Makes me sad.

Me and kleonix were discussing this the other day. Our RP comm has been really slow lately and we were trying to figure out what we could do to get it going again. Unfortunately, one of the things contributing to our problems is LJ itself.

The userbase has definitely dwindled in favor of Tumblr ( which is the shittiest format for RP ever and yet!). LJ never was the most entry-level or user friendly place to set up shop, but it's saving grace was that everyone was on it. There was definitely an incentive to learning how to use the damn thing. But with a smaller userbase that's getting smaller every day, it's getting a lot harder to entice people who don't already use LJ to join. And if they do join, it's then a matter of getting them to play.

And it's getting harder to gear our existing players up to post their logs because LJ's posting interface is getting more and more unwieldy. The longer your post is (and RP logs can be extremely long) the laggier the window gets. This morning, it wouldn't let me scroll down within the text box to highlight the whole post to put it in a cut.

I'm considering seeing if a move to dreamwidth won't help us any and was testing the functionality. They have the old posting interface, but also a lot of tools and usability that LJ doesn't.

Tumblr would be the obvious place to move if it didn't also have a shitty posting interface with most of the same problems in addition to things like the text window jumping back to the top of page whenever you add a new paragraph or it's bullshit excuse for an HTML editor.

tl;dr LJ sucks, DW doesn't, but isn't as popular as Tumblr, which also sucks.

Being afraid of them is kind of like being afraid of a swift-moving pear.

I would've GUFFAWED except my cats are still coming down from an emergency vet visit and I was afraid that kind of sudden noise would launch them into space. I kind of choked inside instead.

I'm (obviously) not afraid of them, either, but I don't like to question other people's fears. I'm the person who can't even think about spiders or jumping onto a box for godssake.

I just thought that was a hilarious turn-of-phrase. I wouldn't laugh at anyone scared of bats (or anything, for that matter). I was actually pretty scared of them for many years due to a harrowing experience waiting for the bus when I was little...

We had a bat living under the air conditioning unit in our bedroom window one year. Oh my. SO CUTE. But of course, had to be moved with extreme caution, because rabies is not cool, or cute.
