Monday recap

Had an exhausting weekend of ups and downs, and I really wasn't ready to come back to work today. I mean, I rarely am, but today I was really Not Ready.

Friday I dragged my lazy ass to Sellout and wound up having a fantastic time. Of course. [livejournal.com profile] curieuse and [livejournal.com profile] normalcyispasse made it out for their first Sellout experience and it sounds like they had a good time. It was also nice to see [livejournal.com profile] starstraf and company for a brief while. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bellanorth and [livejournal.com profile] 0verdrive for guilting me ([livejournal.com profile] bellanorth unknowingly) into getting out of the house. I'm very glad I went.

Saturday morning was spent helping [livejournal.com profile] dvicci move out of his place. We helped with the loading, but had other obligations and couldn't make it to KC for the unloading and post-move cookout. Helped a couple friends (who aren't on LJ--freaks!) get a couch and a TV home from an estate sale. After that was lunch and a nap. Then zoomed off to Jackpot Saloon to catch the Rhythm Busters. A very fine show, and they're attracting more people each week.

Walking out of the Jackpot, I got hit with a headache. By the time we got to the car, I couldn't even open my eyes. Sinus Migrane. Bummer. I took my cafergot and huddled on the floor in the living room until I could get up to take another one. Huddled some more until I could haul myself to the shower and then to bed. [livejournal.com profile] 0verdrive and I had to skip the rockabilly show we were supposed to attend in KC.

Sunday was domestic stuff--errands, laundry, and Father's Day dinner with [livejournal.com profile] 0verdrive's folks. Also watched Kama Sutra, A Tale of Love, the last of my whore homework movies. While it was very nice to look at, I have to say I didn't care much for the film. I suppose when you're that pretty, you don't have to be smart, but damn the characters in that movie were dumb. Sheesh. It did provide lots of costume lust. How could you wear clothes like that and not feel like a goddess? Wow.

UPDATE: Oh yes! Happy Summer Solstice!!!

Very different culture. One of the reasons I use this flick in conjunction with Dangerous Beauty is to highlight the difference in education of a courtesan between cultures.

Very different culture

Well, that certainly is true. A couple of times [livejournal.com profile] 0verdrive turned to me and asked "what is going on/why are they doing that" and I'd have to shake my head and say "I have no idea." LOL! Gotta say it's one of those instances when I definitely prefer Western culture.

I did find it interesting that both women (Paola Franco and Rasa Devi) noted the importance of making a man feel like he is The Only Man On The Planet. So there were a few similarities. But on the whole, yeah. Different world.

It's too bad I couldn't make it to Friday's show. I didn't get done working until 10:00 pm. Dancing would have probably started sooner on Saturday if you had shown up. I sympathize with the headache though. I had a bad one on Wednesday, but was only starting to get the light/sound sensitivity of a migraine before I successfully knocked myself out to sleep it off.
