Wow. Psychologists Discover How People Subconsciously Become Their Favorite Fictional Characters.

Oh shit, how did I forget that this existed.

Use earphones, or listen with a Properly Appreciative audience.

KU canceled classes last night at 9:30-ish, which meant I don't have to go to work today. I scoffed at it because why make that decision so early? And when I woke this morning there was nothing on the ground. But by 8:30 this morning, snow had started to fall and it's been coming down pretty consistently so maybe we are going to get some accumulation after all. Damn it.

I'm trying to decide if I want to be productive today (maybe make some new bloomers for the Etsy shop?) or fuck around on the internet and read porn all day. DECISIONS.

I always take the fuck around on the net option when possible :)

I'm with you, or why would I be here?

Mum reports about 5 inches and consistently falling out in JC.

Hmm.. that article/study could go a long way toward explaining why the folks who don't read books have a harder time seeing outside their own perspective.

This business of closing schools the night before any snow is new. I don't know if it is because the forecasting is more reliable now or what. I am glad, though, because I would have made it to school, no problem, but would have been stranded or would have faced a hellish commute home.

I am also on the fence considering productivity vs. screwing off.

I was doing okay on the productivity from home thing, until I looked at all those GUNS. Lordy. Now I want to go shopping and shooting.

I love images of girls with guns! also, don't know who that tomfighter dude is, but wow is he pretty. My fave entry up there are the constructions. I LOVE LOVE THEM!! here i mean the ones that are made of branches and seed pods. my god, those are gorgeous! also like the space guns.

I totally believe that fictional character thing.

I vote for porn. :D

Being weather-essential, I knew I had to come in, but I did some SERIOUS waffling on whether to walk or drive. I finished up at noon and -barely- made it out of the parking lot and home.

Oh pretty pretty guns, especially the last one.

I took a snow day too!

The Count song makes me howl every time I watch it, so thanks for the laugh!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-02-06 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! I was so happy to come across it again!

I wonder if taking on fictional characters traits happens in oral cultures too, if story telling can have the same effect.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-02-06 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it does. Think of listeners of Beowulf or The Odyssey.

I've been thinking a lot about storytelling lately, and communal consumption of live entertainment. No big thoughts, but pondering how we've gotten away from reading aloud, making music, dancing, and storytelling as participatory activities and not passive.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-02-07 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's too bad. I don't enjoy being read to (I read very fast and listening to someone else read is Just So Slow), but I enjoy reading aloud and I'm good at it. I also love reading plays aloud in a group!

I was trying to use Librivox to listen to Coriolanus so I can get used to the language. I could not handle the different sound quality for each reader, since people record at home. I'm podcast picky too, and hate when there is a call/Skype-in guest who sounds like they are at the end of a tunnel.

LOVE that guns set. I posted this response RE: the set commenting on Dean's favorite pistol (http://mckitterick.tumblr.com/post/75799118585).
