This is a timely post from Breaking Muscle on dealing with lower back pain.
One of
mckitterick's writing students this summer is a doctor and mentioned this thing called Immune Hypersensitivity which made us both go Hmm.
My back feels better when I'm not sitting (now that I can stand upright again), so today is Lots of Work in the Kitchen Day. I've already made two batches of greens (one curly leaf, one lacinato kale). Up next is Bowl of Food for the week, which is going to be pork sausage from Parker Farms (their sausage mix is SO GOOD and also NO SUGAR) with cabbage and sweet potatoes. I'm also going to make schmaltz from the chicken skins I saved up when I was doing the chicken soup for the SCD.
Also laundry and probably a movie because my back is going to need a rest at some point.
Last night was not a good night. I awoke a bit past midnight with a terrible (and familiar) pain in my stomach. It was one of my mysterious Stomach Episodes where it basically feels like I have a chestburster in my stomach--high and just to the left. I haven't had one of those in maybe...a year? I can remember talking about the last one, but I don't have a separate tag for those (poor decision, and I can't bear to think about making one now because they happen so rarely and can you imagine going back through all my "health" posts? OH GOD.). I lay in bed for about an hour, telling myself that this has happened before, and it will pass, and there is no reason to go to the emergency room because there is nothing they could do for me besides possibly scope me, but it would be so long before I got admitted and seen (because I'm not bleeding out or anything) that I'd probably be over it by the time they got the camera down my throat. Last night's episode lasted for about three hours, though, and after it was over, I was so pumped on endorphins and adrenaline that I didn't fall asleep until well after 4am.
I posted this on Tumblr and am putting it here too because everybody in the world (who doesn't hate cute little mices) needs to see this:

Sorry about the chestbusting pain. Since it is over, I will share the little gem: by the location, this was a hypochondriac pain. These undiagnosable problems were what led to the now common usage of hypochondriac.

Edit: Ooo, I found a bunch of information on hypochondriac pain via some acupuncture blogs. But they all talk about liver and gall bladder stuff, and the pain is definitely to the left side...

WHAT IS IT>>??? Dammit.
(on a side note, did you know that some people are built opposite on their insides, with the organs reversed placement from normal? Fascinating, eh?)

"Hypochondriac" is a description of a location (deep to/below the cartilage [of the ribs]). If you divide the abdomen into a tic-tac-toe board, the upper corners are the left and right hypochondriac segments. That is probably why you had some hits on the acupuncture blogs.
Since diagnosing the source of pain there can be difficult, people with those pains were treated as if it was all in their head. Hence our common usage of "hypochondriac" as a person who is overly anxious about sickness but isn't really sick.
It was a bit of navel gazing, nothing actually useful. Sorry if I mislead you.

Ah well.
*perks up*
It did give me some information to share with Dr. Khosh next time, at least!
