I'm not at faire again!

It's humid today. I showered at 10am and my hair is still uncomfortably damp at 1pm. o_O This morning I texted a fellow ex-Rennie friend to say "I am literally ironing sheets right now and it's better than being out at KCRF." So for those of you who were worried I miss it? NAH.

I have a sinking suspicion that some of my headaches might be from my changing eyesight. While I expected to have deteriorating close focus, what's getting worse faster is my distance vision. After doing a lot of close-up work this morning (picking out stitching in some thrift store clothes I'm altering), I can tell how my distance vision has deteriorated since the LASIK surgery. When I close my left (dominant) eye, I can't distinguish separate leaves in the trees across the street anymore. There's something very Flowers for Algernon about this. I was 100% on board with needing reading glasses but I am in no way prepared for needing corrective lenses for distance vision again. I don't have the money to pay for a second surgery, and I'd have to wait until my prescription settled down, anyway.

This morning I made two pillowcases for [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's new pillow (JFC king-size pillowcases are insanely expensive) out of an old sheet (hence the ironing sheets), finished the laundry, and cleaned the kitchen. \o/

Now I'm waiting on [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick to return from his write group. In response to my query about his plans for lunch, he said at 12:45 that he was finishing a scene. Right before I started this entry, I asked him if I could start another project or if he was going to be home within the hour. No response, but I know for 100% certain that if I start a new project, he'll get home as soon as I have everything pulled out for maximum mess which I'll then have to look at for the rest of the week until I have time again on Saturday to work on it. *sigh*

Life with a writer.

Whoop!

HE'S HOME!

Jebus crust, I didn't know that regression happened after LASIK. That freakin' blows. How long since you've had the surgery?

I wish I had the patience to sew. I can mend, fix hems and buttons and so on, but sewing machines and I don't get along very well. I try to sew a straight seam and it always comes out looking like railroad tracks after an earthquake. It must be awesome to be able to do that!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't know if this significant of a regression is very common. Certainly nobody mentioned it to me. Everyone made it very clear that I would probably need reading glasses in five years, but nobody said a thing about losing distance vision (again). Leave it to me.

Sewing is definitely something developed through patience and tenacity. I am a fourth-generation sewist, so I at least have the advantage of having grown up with it. That definitely gave me a head start. I sewed a bit when I was a kid, but didn't get serious about it until I was in my 20s. It really is super handy. Used to be most of my wardrobe was made by me. I'd like to get back to that. just gotta learn how to sew knits, now. They're a whole different animal.

He's home! I hope you scheduled in plenty of time for loafing today!

That blows about the deteriorating distance vision. Fucking eyes.

That icon is gorgeous! You are stunning in that pic!

It was great! Other than making dinner, there was zero productivity after he got home. Yay!

And thank you! I oughta make a post with pics of me from my KCRF days. Man, I did have some great costumes.

[identity profile] kazoogrrl.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes, do that post please! I started following you in part because of your costumes.

The other part was your suffer-no-fools approach to the questions in the dance communities.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-09 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Yeah, I dropped the LJ BD community a while ago. Even if I was still dancing, I don't think I'd have stuck around. Ugh.

Had LASIK about four years ago and there's a bit of deterioration. SOme of it is due to old age, and I'm getting a bit of fuzziness if I've been reading and look up medium to long distance.

However, there are other options being developed!

From 2013 (http://news.discovery.com/tech/synthetic-cornea-blind-vision.htm)

That's about how old mine is, too. I guess it's good to know I'm not alone?

Yep. My left eye has always been stronger/better. When I had the surgery done, I actually asked them to slightly undercorrect the right eye because I'd been told that would help delay the need for reading glasses. *sigh*

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2015-09-07 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I was just going to ask about the ironing of sheets! :) I agree, stupid expensive pillowcases. I never thought about making them!

Also, Stupid Eyes and Age.

FOR. REAL.

[identity profile] hdsqrl.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
For our first (non)KCRF weekend, we went on a float trip. I was thinking on Sunday morning as we were paddling down the river and I was dragging my feet along in the cool water, that had we chosen differently, I'd be standing in the heat/mud/dust, feeling already-exhausted, and dreading the thought that we'd have to do it all again TOMORROW.

So far, I sooooo do not miss the faire. :D

I love this .gif; I love when I can use this.gif

I would still eat that chicken.

And then I would still regret nothing.

I have zero experience with Lasik but I was told once that it will eventually wear off and you'll have to go back to glasses because contacts would no longer be an option. AND they told me that I couldn't have the surgery again. I don't even know if any of that is true, but I decided against Lasik partially because of that. Mostly because I'm scared of it, but that was part of it.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. That's really weird. They made it plain I could get touch-up surgery (for free!) within six months if I was unhappy, and for half-price if I wanted to fix something within the year. Alas, I'm about five years out, now...

[identity profile] 1-rhiannon-1.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought so too! But, to be honest, this was back in the day when Lasik was really really new, like '96 or '97 I think. They've made all sorts of progress since then.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooooh. Yeah, I got mine right after they'd made a big advancement and they were able to correct my night vision halos for an extra $500 per eye. WORTH IT.

[identity profile] 1-rhiannon-1.livejournal.com 2015-09-09 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, that would absolutely be worth it! My night vision sucks balls :(

[identity profile] kazoogrrl.livejournal.com 2015-09-08 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)

I went to MD Ren Faire yesterday, and it was hot but fun, and I'm glad I'm not performing. The end.

[identity profile] gentlespirit.livejournal.com 2015-09-13 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
What did you do at Ren faire? I've liked attending (going next weekend to one!) but I can't imagine working it all summer! (I get easily annoyed by drunk people when I am not drunk!)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-13 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I bellydanced there for ages, as a weekend theme show, a regular stage show, and (finally) as a special ticket event. I also played a whore as a street character for about five years. Ours ran from Labor Day for seven weekends. I don't mind the drunks so much as long as they're tipping well. =D
