Thursday Link Dump, et. al.

This week's dump on cm.net.

Twitter:
Some Bai Yu selfies that are a little more *cough*, well, more something than the ones I linked yesterday.
An Untamed epistolary/texting Twitter fic. Unfinished, but adorable.
Toot Toot! Love how the Harper's Bazaar China wedding shoot continues to come for my life.

YouTube's algorithm suggested the short film Kiss of the Rabbit God and it was not an inaccurate match for my interests. Warnings for blood, and ritualized/fantasy self-harm (that is actually not self-harm).

I had to skim parts of the last six episodes of Guardian to get timeline stuff right for Deconstruction and now I have a bit of sad. THIS SHOW.

Yesterday was awful. Thank dogs I don't actually care about the holiday. I drank one (one!) champagne cocktail with friends at their Xmas Eve gathering and boy oh boy did I pay for it the next day. Got to bed late, slept terrible, woke too early, and the whole day was a wash. I meant to clean house, bake cookies, get prepped for weekend company ([personal profile] mckitterick's new GF and her family want to meet me), but nope! I mostly just sat on the couch in a depressive stupor. Fatigue really fucks with my emotional equilibrium. Of course when I'm quiet on the couch is when Mckitterick wants to have Discussions. Ugh. Gross. I managed, but still... blah.

NGL I'm a little... annoyed? at the prospect of spending the entirety of NYE stone-cold sober but since I'm not bringing my stash to someone's house, that's not an option either. I'll be staying with a friend while the GF is here bc I'm not emotionally equipped to sleep in this house while they're sharing a bed. Even though there's no jealousy issues (I have no interest in getting back into bed with him ever again), it's still...kinda...ew? Mmm, right, and she's got a six-year-old kid so that also means no smoking while they're here at all. Oh this is gonna be Good Fuckin' Times, friends. Guess I'll take advantage of the opportunity to quit for a week. Get my tolerance back down. I do that a few times a year, anyway. Just I usually schedule it during times I don't have stressful shit happening.

I am not cut out to go through life sober. I am eternally grateful that I don't have an addictive personality.

Finally, and most importantly: Read the first two chapters of Tessa's Lady Hotspur before the book comes out in January! This link is also in the dump, but I wanted to make sure people who didn't click the link saw it because Tessa is such a good writer, y'all. She gave me an advance UK copy when I saw her Tuesday night (she is also the one who gave me the cocktail but I don't hold it against her) and I'm So Excited to start it but am waiting until after our holiday company leaves. SIGH.

Uggghh, I am tired and frustrated on your behalf, bb. *so many hugs*

This sounds beyond endurance. I'm wishing you a pleasant time at your friend's despite the soberness. *hugs*

I'm sorry yesterday was so dreadful. :/ I hope today was/tomorrow is vastly better.

Ooh, is Lady Hotspur the one that comes after/is set in the same 'verse as The Queens of Innis Lear?

YES! That is the one! Did you read Queens? NNNGGG SO GOOD.

I did! I've actually never seen or read King Lear (bad theatre major, bad!), so I was completely oblivious to the book's parallels and subversions, but I really enjoyed it. *^^*

I love it when I come across people who've read her books without my recommendation.

I feel like I know several people who've really enjoyed her work, although I can't remember who initially recced her to me.

Queens is the only one I've read at this point, but I own all of the United States of Asgard books--I bought them when my Ginny was moving here a few years ago, which meant a moving truck was making the trip and I could buy a heap of things at the sci-fi bookstore in Toronto and get them home without carrying them on a plane.

So I already knew who she was at that point and had had a strong enough rec to buy the whole set. ^_^ (I've read very few of the books I bought then, though, just because my to-read bookcase is so alarmingly full and it's slow going. ^^;)

I'm pretty sure they're oop now.

That sounds familiar--I'm pretty sure that's why I bought the whole set at once, because the clerk at the bookstore told me it was then or never.

(I do have Glory's Teeth, at least--I may not have the book of novellas, but I have that one as an ebook on its own. ^_^ That's very cool!)

It’s...good that the GF and her fam want to meet you? I guess? I mean, she seems to actually care about you and your emotional state and seems to be trying to do right by you. That is pretty awesome. I didn’t realize she had a kid. That adds a whole layer of messy.

I totally think it’s best for you to stay elsewhere while she’s there. I infer she lives out of town?

Being a person, good or bad, is hard! So go on hating it, but you will be nice to the GF because you must. It's like Everyman, dying with only his Good Works to accompany him to heaven.
