I was waiting for something really outrageous, and sure enough, John McCain didn't disappoint:

Republican presidential candidate John McCain announced Wednesday that he is suspending his campaign to return to Washington and focus on the "historic" crisis facing the U.S. economy.

Remember all those rumors about Bush delaying the 2004 election because of "terrorist scares?" Well here we go, people. A horrific, monstrous, and painfully transparent attempt by the Rabid Right to hold onto power by any tactics they can dream up/pull out of their ass.

That's a really good point. This isn't just about McCain covering his ass as he tucks tail and runs for home, this is also about generating fear in the citizenry and making Obama look bad if he's willing to campaign during this crisis. Yeah, it's a crisis, but not like a bomb has gone off since last week, or even last month. This is a financial mess, but it's not something that needs any one person's complete attention -- and as Obama apparently mentioned, a president is going to have to deal with more than one thing at a time anyway.

Part of McCain's idea included resceduling the first presidential debate to next week, when the ONLY VP debate is supposed to happen. So on top of the absolute moronity of trying to suspend his campaign, he's still trying to keep Palin away from questions. Umm, yikes!
