So this lack of veto basically added SD to the list of cities that brought this to the CA Supreme Court which made same sex marriage legal earlier this year. Which has spawned Propisiton 8 attempting to amend the constiution and trump the Supreme Court.
CA politics is interesting because so much is put into the direct hands of voters through propositions, not just constitutional changes. There was a Prop 22 a few years back that banned gay marriage that passed, which people didn't like and Sanders jumped on board and started up the whole thing.
There's been a huge push on both sides regarding Prop 8. It's pretty much the only issue getting large amounts of ad buys. My google ads are filled with them the last few days.
The latest salvo is "won't you think of the children" with the yes crowd sending out ads saying kids will be taught same sex marriage in school. It's pretty underhanded and fearful. San Diego is still mostly a military town so I've seen a few yes on 8 lawn signs in my neighborhood.
Current polls have the issue pretty close to even which is good because it had quite a bigger following in the past few months. It will be an interesting result since a win for Prop 8 in CA would mean you'll see similar changes coming to a state near you very soon.
People are weird. Kansas and Missouri both have Democratic governors now, but both states went Red for the presidential election. Am I the only person who thinks that's just...strange?
