Oink

So this is excellent. And typical.

Last night I came home from work particularly tired--like I was having serious allergy issues. I felt like I had a slight fever, which is rare. My nose had been running all day, making me cough and upsetting my stomach. I whined at [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick as I laid down for a nap about how crappy I was feeling and he popped up with, "Oh, well M (who spent a fair amount of time at our house on Tuesday, including eating dinner with us) has swine flu. He just found out today."

Seriously?

Seriously.

I'm supposed to go to a birthday party tonight in KC. I'm the designated driver. I've already canceled one date with this friend. And I might have swine flu.

Awesome.

I feel so awful canceling on Jason (again). But how much worse will I feel if I give him and the entire birthday party a case of H1N1?

Son of A! When can you get tested for it, I don't freakin' believe it!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I don't know that I'll go get tested. I mean...what difference does it make? As long as I behave as if I have it, I should be able to keep myself from spreading it.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Great, so how do you behave? Other than not going to parties? Are you at work?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm at work, but I'm not letting anyone come into my office, nor am I delivering the mail. I'm not doing any photocopying or touching anything outside of my office. I'm not letting anything I've touched leave my office. I Purell my hands thoroughly before leaving my office and when I return. When I go to the bathroom, I use a tissue between my hand and the door handles.

And I'm being very careful to never touch my face.

It's a pretty interesting exercise, really.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! And I hope you will treat yourself well and feel better fast!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
After eight hours, anything I've touched will be free of possible contamination. So by Monday, my office will be clean and I can get back to normal secretarial duties.

I wish some of my professors would be that thoughtful. At least two of the colds/flu I had this year I know came from one of them. Possible the same one! Hope you have a quiet weekend and feel better soon.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, well I am such a thoughtful person, you know. That's me, thoughtful all over.

[identity profile] razorart.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
OMFG!!!!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't you glad you're picking up that sewing machine next week?

[identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a perfectly legitimate excuse, though.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
NOOOOOOOO!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeeeeeeees.

I have every listed symptom except, of course, the lack of appetite. Because that takes an Act of God or something.
Headache, yes
Tiredness, yes
Chills, yes
Aching muscles, yes
Limb or joint pain, yes
Diarrhea or stomach upset, yes
Sore throat, yes
Runny nose, yes
Sneezing, yes
Loss of appetite, no of course not

Also, I'm running a very slight fever.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Slight fever, or over 100?

I like the Brit version (http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Pandemic-flu/Pages/QA.aspx#whatis)of the Q & A.
sleep in the spare room, LOL

and this:
Should I have a swine flu party or try to catch swine flu now, so I will be immune to more serious strains that may emerge later?

A Swine Flu Party! What a greeat idea, those silly Brits.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Slight fever, or over 100?

Oh, not nearly that high. My normal temperature is usually only around 97 or a bit above.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that could be a Good Sign that it's not the Dreaded Porcine.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)

Yah.
Yay.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_luaineach/ 2009-08-14 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine, too. So when I get a temp of 99 I'm all "FEVER!!1!" and everyone else is all "wha?"

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Srsly. I get up to what counts for normal and I think "uh-oh!"

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Parents used to have chicken pox parties when I was young because they just wanted their kids to get it and get it over with.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
They aren't testing for it anymore really, because how it has generally played in this country has been very mild.

Hope you feel better soon. Your friend will understand you bailing out.

D.

[identity profile] theoneinblue.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh NO! That's horrible! But I also can't think of a way that your friend won't understand you missing his party if you've got H1N1. Oh hon, take care of yourself, and I hope it passes quickly!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure everyone will understand. I just really did want to go. Bleh.

[identity profile] indigodreamer.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's terrible! I hope you get through it quickly and are feeling better soon.

Swine flu weekend = :(

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
At least it happened before renaissance festival started.

[identity profile] indigodreamer.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Right!

[identity profile] royal-spice.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no one wants a diseased whore.

[identity profile] pamelonian.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone TOTALLY understood, and while it would have been great to have you there, you need to take care of yourself. [livejournal.com profile] shrijani had this a couple of weeks ago. Bed rest was about the best remedy. I sat with her for a couple of hours that night and never caught it. During summer, I bet my immune system is pretty solid.

It's THE FLU. That's all it is. Not pleasant, but the prognosis is good.

Feel better soon!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. =/

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm catching up with a big: Oh Noez!!!!!!

Really. That sucks. Are you feeling better?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm feeling much better. I slept pretty much all Saturday, and was feeling totally fine by Sunday. Yay!
