Fail number one, meet winning fail number two

Well, shit. I called Cheeptrims and the venise lace for my pirate coat that was back ordered in March is still unavailable and won't ship until June. So there's no way I'll have my steampunk pirate costume for the ConQuesT masquerade. What a pisser. I'm very unhappy about that. Do I come up with a different costume idea? Skip the masquerade entirely? I'm disappointed that I won't be walking the halls in Frock Coat Finery with [livejournal.com profile] belluthien. Boo, boo, boo. All around major fucking boo.

Oh, the irony that I made my fantastically original steampunk costume for the 2008 ConQuesT when something like ten percent of the attendees even knew what steampunk was. Because I used it in the 2008 competition, I can't re-enter it. I can still use it for a hall costume, which I was planning to do anyway, but it's not the same as entering something new when I was so close to having a gorgeous costume that's appropriate for this year's ConQuesT theme. Which, did I mention, is steampunk?

*facepalm*

And now, to lighten the mood, here is an even more gloriously fantastic fail. Only this one is intentional. And fabulous. Please direct your attention to Tyra Banks' adventures into the literary world. I'm not gonna offer my comment on this, because really. The jokes write themselves.

Ugh, sorry to hear about the costume. I know Grace was thinking about throwing something together for the con, but with our cashflow being the way it is right now I don't know if that's still going to happen or not.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well at least we'll be able to commiserate together. *sigh*

I still might try to pull something together, but it won't be as awesome or as appropriate as the pirate get-up.

I pout beside you.

Which was the lace you wanted?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
A metallic gold venise lace. This one (http://www.cheeptrims.com/store/item.asp?Category=&SubCategoryID=&GroupID=&SKU=LV-TL-159-960). Which, you'll notice is not marked as back ordered on the website.

No lace anywhere else? Like this, although the color is slightly different, it could just be a photograph thing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/46597431/venice-lace-trim-in-metallic-gold-for

I'm also glad that they explained how to pronounce Modelland. Her readership would have never figured that one out. I wonder if the book is written in the fabulous Internet Style of the description page.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's definitely available elsewhere, but there is no way I can pay $4.75/yd. I'm pushing my budget to pay the ninety cents a yard for the back ordered stuff.

I really hope the damn stuff gets here in time for RenFest, at least.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say the same thing. I'm so glad she clarified how to pronounce Modelland.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
And btw, I think that copper corset is my favorite.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, thanks. It is pretty amazing. I wish I enjoyed corset-making more. *looks at [livejournal.com profile] radcliffe and [livejournal.com profile] solan_t*

Alas, that sort of construction process triggers the same response in me as knitting. "I coulda made an entire weekend wardrobe by now!!!!!"

Awesome costume.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. It won Judges' Choice!

[identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It could be worse. You could have your sewing machine so packed away for construction that you don't even know where it is. ;-/

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That would never happen to me. Like Ford Prefect and his towel, I always know where my sewing machine is!

[identity profile] zhukora1.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadface! I'm not going to ConQuesT or anything, but I also have a rather elaborate steampunk (well, currently plain ol' Victorian) costume on the back burner until more components can be acquired. I feels your pain!

Unfortunately I don't know if you'd have time to start a whole new costume concept from scratch, given the ConQuesT dates. I'd also join the party advocating alternate trim, but I can totally sympathize with not wanting to break the bank on it and not wanting the wrong stuff, so I won't. :(

Well, whatever you end up wearing, I hope it is fab, and that there are pictures in the offing!

I'm one of those annoying people who would rather have it exactly as I want it or not at all. =/

I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but I just left a message with cheeptrims customer service line to see if they can sub out a similar metallic gold trim if any others are in stock.

*fingers crossed*

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Modelland? Oh wow. Why does it make me think of that Barbie that said, "Math is hard"? Oof.

I love that she's wearing glasses.

Shoes very similar to hers appear in a video that had regular play on Melody Arabia a few months ago. Wish I knew the name of the artist...

the funny thing is, i did the steampunk stuff before i even heard of steampunk. (and i was actually wearing a old 100 year old tail coat i found at a antique mall) So this year i am going to be concentrating on Room Con. :) (I will be seeing you there right?)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Darlin', RoomCon is my main reason for attending the Con.

Dang me!
I'm so sorry about that! I don't suppose you have another source you can turn to? Was this to be the trim on the coat, or was it the soft flowy kind for sleeves? Let me know if I should send you some alternative sources. (Heritagetrading on ebay, for example, has awesome trims.)

I don't want to do masquerade. Lol. ;P

SO WANTED to walk the halls with you. I'm getting cold con feet in a big way, here. My recluse is resisting. Damn it.

You're going to walk the halls with me sister, because my problems are solved!!!! See my most current post.

I've been looking forward to hanging out with you. Please don't back out! Although I'll understand if, when it comes down to the wire, you're just not up to it.

But can you tell that Tyra's book is "pronounced 'Model Land'?"
