My cream is saved

Iwig Dairy met their minimum purchase shares. On their Facebook page, they give thanks and glory to god. I think it would've been more appropriate (and polite) to thank their investors, but that's okay. I can continue to purchase their delicious heavy cream in glass bottles and that's what was important to me.

Coffee is perking and will be ready soon. Using only high quality coffee and Iwig cream got me to where I didn't have to sweeten my coffee. I bought some beans from Z's yesterday since I was downtown. I'm interested to see if I like them as much as I liked the ones from J&S. J&S is a ridiculous drive for me to make for just a pound of beans, so I hope I like Z's just as much. Are any of you Z's fans?

My muscles are a little tender today, but not nearly as bad as I thought they'd be. Hurray!

This reminds me of they guy my band rents our rehearsal space from. When the soda machine in the building broke, and being a newly blood washed Christian, he prayed right then and there that the Lord would deliver us from our Pepsi-less existence. I suggested he call the number on the side of the machine. Likely he thinks I'm a prophet now. Poor guy.

HAHAHAHA!!!

*snicker* Either that or he thinks your possessed.

I'm not a coffee-drinker (tea for me), but my Chris is an espresso addict and adores Z's beans above all others. Apparently they roast them locally or something? He also swears the ones directly from Z's are superior to the Z's beans at the Merc. (He thinks perhaps the turnover is faster at Z's?) Anyway, I thought I should pass along his hearty recommendation. We don't have space or money for a $400 burr grinder (blade grinders won't produce espresso or will clog the machine or something) so he grinds the beans weekly at Z's and lovingly enjoys his fresh espresso at home every morning. Let me know if you think J&S is better after trying Z's, though, so I can suggest that Chris try them!

I made a pot of the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe this morning and it was good. It's not my favorite roast or bean, so I thought it would be a good acid test. Does that make sense to anyone but me?

I happily drank the whole pot, so that speaks well for Z's. Once I try the Ugandan Organic (it sounded closer to what I usually prefer), I'll decide if it's worth the special trip to J&S. For now, I'd say they're comparable, with Z's edging out the competition because of location.

Good to know!

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The $100 Cuisinart coffee pot has a burr grinder built in. Lots cheaper than buying a separate grinder.

My old coffee pot broke just before I moved, so I decided that I would replace it with Extremely Insane Upscale, so now I have freshly ground beans for every pot and double filtered water.

Have you gotten an aeropress yet? I repeat: yum yum yum!

Also, I don't have a burr grinder, but I've heard great things about the Hario Skerton (~$40, http://www.sweetmarias.com/sweetmarias/grinders/manual-grinders/hario-skerton-hand-crank-coffee-mill.html).

One of the things I like about the aeropress is how instant it is, so I'll probably stick with a whirly blade for now.

All my money has been going to things other than an aeropress. Alas. But it's all good. I have a trainer and I helped save a family dairy! =D

[identity profile] poincaraux.livejournal.com 2010-07-26 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a good allocation of resources :)

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
An aeropress looks like a combination of drip and French Press. Probably good, but I am SOOOOO lazy. So I use the Cuisinart pot, which really does make good fresh coffee.

[identity profile] poincaraux.livejournal.com 2010-07-26 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
The aeropress is delicious, but one of the big benefits is that it's so fast: boil some water, grind some beans, 30 seconds later you have coffee. That said, it sounds like the Cuisinart pot is even faster in terms of time that you actually spend dorking around with it, so you might win this round :)

There's a Z's Moon River I got at the Merc once that I really liked.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll buy some of that next time I'm downtown.

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Z's. We usually get the 24 oz bag of Sumatran from World Market because it's decent and cheap, but if I'm buying coffee for the sake of buying nice coffee, hell yeah I'll go to Z's.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I was very disappointed that Z's didn't have a Sumatra. =(

Z's is excellent, and Mocha-Doo's (in HyVee) has excellent, locally roasted beans & blends too.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard good things about Mocha-Doo's!

IWIG thanks G-D,
you and the fellow investors are the effective agents in question...
Therefore, Thou Art God (and made of stars1)!
Congrats!

I like Z's, but they are more of in the 'great coffee' range, and not the 'Best Evar' range.

Don't forget some active-rest like walking or stretching to become less/least sore ASAP!

1: for values approaching 1 Sagan.

Thou Art God (and made of stars)!

I love this! Yes!!!

What is Best Evar coffee (in your opinion) that I can purchase locally?

I've been stretching a few times a day since Friday, but should have done more walking on Sunday.

For what little I know about coffee... I liked Z's just fine (the Baldwin coffee shop bought beans from them) but La Prima Tazza was my favorite. Around here, I buy from Seattle's Best Coffee, but that's cuz I have no patience with experimentation to find a comparable local flavor. I hear The Roastarie is good.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-07-30 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Roasterie coffee okay. I think Z's is better. I haven't been in Prima Tazza in forever! I should give them a try.

I appreciate your subtle spelling correction, madam. [bows]

Ha! I hadn't even noticed, sweetie.
