Vanity

We braved two blocks of downtown yesterday after brunching at Aladdin Café, whose lunch buffet I successfully navigated for the second time while on Whole30 (fattoush, baba ganough, and shawarmah chicken--GO!). Enticed inside by The Etc. Shop's multiple SALE! signs, I found two pairs of My Favorite Sunglasses, which I've worn since 1996 (two pairs, same style) on sale for $10 each. I snapped up the last two pairs since I figure this means either the style is being discontinued or the store isn't carrying them anymore. In any case, I've got the next two decades covered as far as sunglasses go.

I. Love. These. Sunglasses.

Because I haven't noticed how shitty I feel for a couple weeks, I'm going to take that as an indication that the Armour thyroid medication is working well. It's after two o'clock in the afternoon and I don't have the overwhelming need for a nap today. That's pretty awesome. I've even had enough energy to do my exercises after work the past couple weeks. Amazing! Whole30 continues to go well. Last night I made coconut-crusted chicken breasts, zucchini noodles with sun-dried tomatoes, and the butternut squash puree (again). Man that butternut squash puree is good. Good thing, since I'm not used to cooking chicken breasts (I'm more of a thigh girl) and they came out a little dry. The puree was Very Necessary. Overall, things are going well on the body front, but I'm having a hard time not stepping on the scale. It's so tempting to want that Validation of Progress, but weight loss isn't shouldn't be my goal here. What I need to do is get my food and thyroid issues under control. Vanity should take a back seat to that. Right? I just wish I wasn't putting vanity in the back seat so close to my KCRF bellydance gig.

Isn't it awesome when you find a thing that you love and then they stop making and/or carrying it?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-09 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It happens to me all the time. I'm used to it.

You have no idea how bad I wish you liked that stupid Pay Less Furniture store on South Iowa.

That place nearabouts gave me seizures every time I drove past it. NOT COOL.

HA HA HA HA HA!

Avoid the scale! Validation is good but it also comes with the trap of "oh, look how well i'm doing, this is easy so i can afford to slack a bit just for a second..." thinking. Or at least it does for ME. I know that's what derailed me last time, in the beginning of accountability club when i was losing regularly.

Keep focusing on it's not about the weight and thus not about the scale and you'll go go go!

I caved to the urge to use a pee stick today since I was craving free, despite beer yesterday, and actually ate my tuna without the mental battle I usually have in the beginning... and I was way into ketosis so GO ME, I might be back on track.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-09 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! GO YOU! There is no "might be" lady, you are, you ARE!

Maybe I should pick up some keto-stix this evening on my way home from yoga. That would be not only validation, but a good way to track not necessarily how much fat I'm losing, but if I am losing.

::nods::

I'm addicted to those sticks and this is the first time i've tried one in months because I just *felt* like I was right with myself, and I was!

Just read that squash recipe and OMG SOUNDS GOOD. What is the consistency?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, honestly, it's pretty much the consistency of baby food. But SO tasty!

You would probably love my cream of butternut squash soup -- it uses soy milk.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as you leave out the soy milk and sub it with coconut milk or maybe almond milk. I don't eat soy.

Since I've started the entire cut grains thing, mostly being good, only caving to corn, I've lost 14lbs. Since July 3rd. And I cheated big time on July 4th and July 17 - 19 (Mac's birthday and the leftover fallout that occurred with it.) I have never in my life have lost that much weight that quickly.

I'm totally stepping on the scale because until I'm in a healthy weight range again, weight is a big part of it along with not constantly craving bread or cookies.

Whoa! You go, girl! That's fucking AWESOME! I'm so happy this is working well for you.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fantastic - congratulations!

Those are some seriously rockin' sunglasses! Glad you were able to snag a couple of pairs before they were discontinued. :D

Suave recently discontinued my favorite conditioner (which I use by the bucketful), so while I was very pleased to be able to buy armloads of the stuff at super cheap, now I have to face up to finding a new conditioner in about 6 months. Woe! If only a bottle of conditioner could last a decade at a time. :P

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I <3 these. It's hard to find good frames for my teeny face.

If I may make a recommendation for conditioners, I love Giovanni 50:50. The shampoo and the conditioner are faboo. No sodium laureth sulfate, no parabens, no silicones.

[identity profile] zhukora1.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the rec! I've heard Giovanni recommended many, many times, so it may be time to give it a try. I'm not sure about the 50:50, though. I never use shampoo on the length of my hair, only on the scalp, so it's possible the combo version may be too drying for me. Still! I understand Giovanni makes very nice straight conditioner, so all hope is not lost. ;)

I'm so glad your Whole30 is going well!
Mine has completely failed and I've resigned myself to trying it again sometime when I'm not such a wreck.
And perhaps getting your body bits under control - vanity will follow naturally on it's own course....

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry you're a wreck.

=(

I love classic cat's-eye sunglasses so much. They're so glamorous but a little funky too.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! And the fact that these are (faux) tortoise shell makes them extra special, IMO.

[identity profile] shrijani.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Even though it's in the back seat, vanity is still in the car. :)

I am glad Whole30 is going well for you, too! I may have to do the Aladdin buffet this weekend myself! It is sounding mighty tasty, and it's been entirely too long.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Even though it's in the back seat, vanity is still in the car.

Of course you would come up with the perfect analogy. That's just...sublime. Mwah!

[identity profile] radiantmephit.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Your new glasses are excellent, I'm glad you're feeling increased energy, and I'm super impressed that you're staying away from the scale. What good stuff.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And your tits look really good.

We are made of awesome.

F'reals!!!
