O-ho! You just *thought* you were over the allergy problems!

Bad allergies. Ugh.

Yesterday evening I was supposed to go to a make-up yoga session but I skipped it. My face hurt to lean forward just to grab stuff out of the fridge or pick up a pen. The sinus throbbing went all the way into my lower molars. I had to snort half a bottle of Afrin so my nasal passages opened up enough for me to sleep. This morning my eyes are red, and my face is full. I was, at least, able to do all my exercises today since only the first one (push-ups) and last one (plank pose) required a face-downward position.

Tonight I'm going to Walgreen's to pick up some Sudafed. The real pseudoephedrine stuff. Because fuck a bunch of this. Hello, meth watchlist!

On the advice of this article at Begin2Dig, I tried covering up the glowing numbers on my alarm clock last night. Since I use a Sunrise Bio-Brite alarm clock, I don't want to wear my eye mask every night. I used a piece of fabric and some electrical tape, so I could lift the cover to check the time when I (inevitably) wake to pee in the middle of the night. I don't know if it was that or the fact that I was exhausted from allergy issues, but man did I sleep well. Something I'd like to be doing right now, in fact.

The eyes--they burn--and I have a little bit of vertigo, probably from the sinus pressure in my ears.

One more weekend of faire. And then I swear, I'm not going to spend more than fifteen continuous minutes outside for an entire week. I am So Done. I'm not dancing on Saturday, and right now I think I'm not going to make it out at all that day, even for Smoker. B-l-a-h.

I had the same sinus problem yesterday. It was bad enough that I didn't go on my planned run.

I've 12-hour pseudoephedrined myself up for today. It still makes me all kinds of cranky all the trouble I have to go through and everything I have to sign just to have clear sinuses and not be in head-exploding pain, mainly because I haven't seen any proof that limiting pseudoephedrine has decreased meth production at all. With drugs and money, people will find a way.

I'm sorry you're feeling it, too. And yes, for real about the stupid hoop-jumping just to get something to relieve the face pain.

To add insult to injury, pseudoephedrine isn't even the best-working decongestant for me. My favorite was phenylpropanolamine, which is now illegal for sale (to humans) in the U.S. I've considered trying the version for animals, but I haven't gotten quite that desperate. Yet.

No worries, it's the same as the human drug. You can order it pretty easily from a Canadian pharmacy online. I get my eye-bag reducer *cough* Preparation H *cough* from one.

Oooo! Good to know! I tried to buy some in Italy when I was there, but the pharmacist couldn't (or wouldn't) understand what I was asking for. Which online pharmacy do you recommend?

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I ordered from Canada Pharmacy (http://www.canadapharmacy.com/)

But oh shite...

Phenylpropanolamine has been withdrawn in Canada.

Fosters and Smith (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=16732) have it.

ETA: oh, requires prescription

Cool.

I'll have to email my mom to see if she remembers what the dose was for nose-unplugging.

Edit: Curses. Also, color me unsurprised.

ugh, I'm with you on the sinus cement.

My Internet health guru :) Dr. Mercola, used to have an article about the blue LED lights disturbing sleep, but I can't find it now, only this sleep/melatonin/complete darkness/cancer link article (http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/01/02/sleep-in-darkness.aspx). I remember it as recomending a red penlight if you needed a light to make your way to the bathroom. I've covered the little blue lights on my bedroom telly and recorder, and keeping the old alarm clock that shines red instead of blue numerals.

Last weekend already.. it's unreal in a way. I hope that weaver has our rug made since we haven't dropped by out there to check on it.

What is going on with the allergies? I thought I was just being a whiny baby until I saw you and Stu were suffering as well. I went through last year's archives (a very good argument for journaling about this crap) for this time of year, and while I mention taking some Sudafed on Columbus Day, there's nothing about itchy eyes or nasty headaches. So yeah, this year must be worse.

Rainier summer = more leaf mold, perhaps?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
True. And last year we had that early frost.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking of leaf mold, WOW was I enjoying it last night. I mowed up tons of leaves (and long grass) yesterday. Walking around in a cloud of moldy leaves for 40 minutes left my eyes burning and nose running for hours... actually, still enjoying the effects.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You can count Ada in on that as well. I was hoping she would avoid my late summer/early fall allergies, but it isn't proving to be the case so far.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-10-15 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear. Poor thing.

[identity profile] shrijani.livejournal.com 2010-10-16 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, what the hell is in the air? The dust from the industrial corn harvest? My allergies are the worst they have been all year, and by far. My eyes have been insanely itchy, burny and wet, and I've been sneezing and wheezing, yet my symptoms are inconsistent with those of a virus, so I am confident it is not a cold. I am also confident that it SUCKS.

Oh, and there's also been the persistent sinus headache, which has been rad.

Whatever it is, I hope it goes away soon. I don't know what's needed, but the air needs to fucking clear.

As much as I hate to say it, we need a solid freeze. Or two.
