That's enough of that

After some wonderful discussions, I figured it was time for a return to largely content-free posting. Here you go.

1. IT installed Office 2010 on my computer at work. All I can say is thank god I memorized a lot of hot key commands, and thank god they still work. The command navigation on this is ass.

2. If you use this sort of page-a-day calendar, and you haven't yet recycled your 2010 one, would you please save it for me? I make it into a notepad, thanks to this fantastic product that [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit purchased for me a couple years ago. I love this stuff. If you'd like me to make you a notepad out of your leftover paper, just let me know. The quart bottle is going to last me the rest of my life. And really, who can't use another pad of scratch paper in their world?

3. Winter finally started do a number on my skin. After going without all summer without a face cream (and most of fall, except for during KCRF when I used sunscreen), I'm starting to get dry and flaky patches on my cheeks. The coconut oil I was using at night isn't working. Well, it works, but it also gets all up in my hair, which is not great.

4. My parents are not visiting for xmas this year, as planned. Never mind why. It's not a health issue or anything. I thought about posting about it (it is kind of a big deal, emotionally), but I don't want to put any more energy into the issue. I am grieved, angry, and disappointed that they won't be visiting. Not because of missing seeing them on the holiday--I couldn't care less about that--but the circumstances around the decision to cancel the trip really really bother me. A lot.

5. I'm up in the air about what to do for NYE. No local activities appeal to me. NYE used to be my favorite holiday, but the past couple years I've been ambivalent about the whole thing. Ambivalent leaning toward dismissive.

6. Hmph.

7. I've been making slow but steady progress on my horror self-education. I hope soon to post my thoughts about what I've read so far (The House on the Borderland, Castle of Otranto, Vathek, Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man).

8. I forget what eight was for.

9. Twenty more work days until I get to take my week away from the office in January. Yay!

10. Fifteen days until I have to have these application files processed and ready for distribution. Eeek!

Regarding #5, Chris and I are having a little something at our place, and I know Christine/Kent and Dani/Matt/Claire are at least considering it. I'll find you on FB and give you the scoop. Completely low-key, no pressure, yada yada. It's an option. :)

ETA: No luck on the FB front - will message the details instead, just so you have 'em.

Yeah, I'm not on FB. Oops! Thank you for the invite. I'm afraid I'm not inclined to drive to KC (again with the blah), but I really do appreciate the offer!

Oh for the days when BR5-49 played at Liberty Hall (http://www.pitch.com/2002-12-26/music/br549/), and everyone dressed up and danced, and there was a balloon drop and confetti!

Sweetie surprised me with floor tix to Kelley Hunt again this year.

As for #4... so sorry... but now I can have my snowstorm?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. SNOW AWAY. Thank you for asking. =D

Have fun at Kelley Hunt!

Thanks
I was really worried last year that she'd gone all gospel, but thankfully that didn't happen.
I hope you find something to lift your spirits soon.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

Man, I was totally ahead of you on your horror education, and then I got distracted by other things and now I'm way behind again! Go me! I did read a comic book version of House on the Borderland recently, though, and that counts, right?

I've got it coming from the library, and Vathek is in my stack for after Christmas, probably.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure how I'd react to a graphic novel of House on the Borderland. For me, most of the scariness (and I did think parts were very scary) was making up the images in my own head. To say nothing of the tension factor--which doesn't play nearly as well for me in a graphic-novel format. The story isn't terribly harmed by knowing the outcome, though, so I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the novel. I'll see if I can find a copy of the graphic novel, and we can compare notes.

Vathek was troublesome. For many reasons.

[identity profile] orrin.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Having not read the book yet, I don't know how they compare, but the art was actually some of the high note of the graphic novel for me. Richard Corben is one of those artists whose work only works (?) for me sometimes, but when it does, it really does, and this was one of those latter cases.

That said, I'll definitely have to compare notes once I've read the novel.

We used to go out to a movie on NYE for the midnight showing. I think we're doing that again this year if there is a decent movie showing.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The only movie I'm looking forward to (that I know about) is the new Tron movie (don't suck don't suck please don't suck). I don't think [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick is gonna wait two weeks to New Year's to see it. He's probably already planning to catch a midnight showing when it comes out on the 17th. =D

9 for a lost god

[identity profile] annamatic.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
LOL @ "I forget what 8 was for"

[identity profile] annamatic.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I saw them in '94 at the long-defunct River Valley Music Cafe in Lawrence (up by Pizza Shuttle on 23rd) with G. Love & Special Sauce. Dive little joint, about 600 people jammed into a 400 person venue. Totally fucking rad concert. I was crammed up front and center and got sweated on *and* winked at by GG. :D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, man. I didn't even know about that show. Dang!!! Must've been a fantastic experience.

[identity profile] annamatic.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It was. :D

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
X3!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY! Thank goodness people still remember.

[identity profile] annamatic.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'm 35 and still wear stripey socks and a nose ring. Of course I remember. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm 40 and wear both those things, too. =D

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I trump you all. 45 + stripey socks, but no nose ring.

AND, I had tickets to see them in Hoch auditorium in 85ish, but didn't go because my boyfriend broke up with me right before and I was too depressed or something. DANG! How stupid was I?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor thing! Talk about a double whammy.

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought 9 was for a lost god.

I'm planning on cooking a huge batch of chili on NYE, putting on my pajamas after I walk the dog and doing much of nothing (aside from work on the goddamned book, assuming the goddamned book's not done by then). So, ambivalent's not a bad thing.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Spending the evening alone in my PJs and going to bed at a reasonable hour was what I did last year. And you know? It really wasn't bad! Certainly worthy of consideration for a repeat.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I've also been wondering about NYE, and miss the days of seeing BR549 play. Perhaps I'll just glue shit down over some wine.
